Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar today maintained the police would not interfere in the civil action taken by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) to seek assets acquired from funds allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB. 

"If it is a civil case, police would not interfere. 

"No (cooperating with the FBI) in civil matters," he told a press conference in Bukit Aman, when asked whether the Malaysian police will liaise with the US' Federal Bureau of Investigations to look into the case.

The DOJ had in its latest civil forfeiture suit filed yesterday, sought to seize US$540 million in assets purchased with funds allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB. 

Among the extravagant spending detailed in the filing were US$27.3 million allegedly spent to purchase jewellery for 'MO1's wife', another US$9.9 million spent on jewellery for Australian model Miranda Kerr and her mother, as well as another sum of money for Low Taek Jho's (Jho Low) luxury yacht "The Equanimity'. 

Attorney-general Mohamad Apandi Ali, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's aide Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad and the company involved, 1MDB, have since come up with their respective statements dismissing the DOJ findings.
