Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state has discovered some "new, shocking and disturbing" information on the Election Commission’s redelineation proposal.

Based on the information, the state executive council had decided to file a legal suit against EC, he said.

Lim added that he will file the suit after April 7 on behalf of the Penang government.

He however declined to reveal the new information, saying he would do so after state executive councillor cum PKR Batu Maung assemblyperson Abdul Malik Kassim returns from Kuala Lumpur.

“I have sent my objections to the EC after discovering the new information, which is very shocking and disturbing. It is regarding the EC’s failure to propose a redelineation exercise in Penang,” Lim told reporters in Komtar today.

EC’s proposed redelineation exercise was announced on Sept 15 last year.

“The EC should carry out the exercise according to the Federal Constitution. Their failure to do so renders the delineation process in Penang, and whole of Malaysia, invalid and unconstitutional."

In November last year, Lim said the state was mulling legal action against the EC for rejecting his objections against the EC’s failure to propose redelineation in Penang.

He said the EC's failure to draw new boundaries for constituencies in Penang has resulted in the Paya Terubong state seat with about 41,707 voters, compared with 12,752 voters in his Air Putih seat.

He filed objections on Oct 14 last year, saying that the difference between the two seats was 3.27 times, and that Paya Terubong alone can make up for more than three seats.

Pakatan Harapan parties have condemned the EC's proposal as an attempt to keep BN in power, but the commission has strongly denied these claims.
