Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali said the government has instructed for the demolition order on a Rohingya school illegally built on state land to be revoked.

Azmin said the decision was based on humanitarian grounds after NGO Serantau Muslim highlighted their plight yesterday.

"We have decided that the notice issued by the land office to the learning centre for Rohingya children be revoked.

"The land office and Subang Jaya Municipal Council will also identify other unused and suitable premise for the education of the Rohingya children so that they can be relocated to a more suitable location," he told reporters at the lobby of the Selangor state assembly.

Azmin noted that Rohingya children, many who are refugees in the country, require access to education.

Meanwhile, Serantau Muslim chairperson Raja Ahmad Iskandar Raja Yaacob thanked Azmin for the prompt response.

"We thank the concern of the Selangor government on the issue.

"Hopefully, such matters (demolition) will not be repeated and can be handled better," he said.

Yesterday, Rohingya students, clad in school uniforms, protested against the expected demolition of their school.

Raja Ahmad acknowledged that the structure was illegally built on state land but had asked for leeway from the government in the interest of the children.
