Pandikar: RM1.4m road to official home nothing to do with me

Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia said the construction of the RM1.4 million alternative road leading to his official residence has nothing to do with him personally.

Building the road was the government's prerogative, The Star quoted him as saying.

"That is not my house. It belongs to the government," he said.

"So if the government thinks it fit that there must be an access road to the house, they build the road.

"It has nothing to do with me. It is like the buildings in Putrajaya. They are built by the government. They have nothing to do with the prime minister," he added.

In a written parliamentary reply, Works Minister Fadillah Yusof said the cost included drainage works, a security post, electronic fencing, a security system, street lights as well as related works.

"The total cost of building an alternative route to the official residence of the Dewan Rakyat speaker on No 3, Jalan Tunku, Kuala Lumpur is RM1.4 million," he said.

The minister was responding to Ong Kian Ming (DAP-Serdang), who questioned the construction costs for the new walls and upgrading works on the road leading to the speaker’s home.

Construction commenced on March 21 last year and was expected to be completed 11 days ago.

The project is however only 72 percent complete due to a reschedule in concrete pavement works, which caused the delay.

"However, the project delivery is expected to be completed according to the rescheduled contract," said Fadillah.
