Cops find new leads in shooting case in Glugor

The police have new leads believed to be able to facilitate investigation into the incident in which a businesswoman was shot dead while driving in Taman Pekaka 1, Glugor here yesterday.

Penang police chief Chuah Ghee Tye said they also believed the new leads would be able to help the police to identify the suspects.

"We cannot disclose the leads as investigation is ongoing. What I can say is that the suspects committed the crime in public and with today's variety of technologies available such as mobile phones, it really helps the police.

"Police have also received assistance from the public, namely video recording and images from the incident and I believe through the recording we can identify those who committed the crime," he told reporters after the Penang police contingent monthly pledge assembly in George Town today.

In the 5.45pm incident, the 49-year-old victim was driving her BMW car alone when she was approached by two men riding a motorcycle who then fired more than 10 shots at her.

The victim is identified as a businesswoman in logistics shipping and believed to have been shot from the driver side with six shots hitting her chest.

Police also urged those who have video recording or images during the shooting to hand them over to police to assist with the investigation.

So far, the investigation revealed the case had no link with the triads or gangsterism and the police were still conducting further investigations, including to identify the motive, he said.

Chuah said the suspects used automatic pistols and police found 9mm bullet casings at the scene.
