Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak asked Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to reveal the name of the senior minister who purportedly quit the federal government to prove he wasn't lying.
"No minister informed me that he is quitting.
"I shall assume Azmin is telling a lie to create a stir unless he can reveal the name of the minister," Najib said in a Facebook posting tonight.
Earlier today, Azmin took to Twitter, asking if a senior minister had indeed quit Najib's government.
“Talk is that the minister did not want to be complicit with 1MDB. Follow the developments,” he tweeted, without elaborating.
However, several ministers contacted by Malaysiakini said they were in the dark about the claim.
Among them were Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani and Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
Nazri dismissed the allegation, claiming that Azmin was trying to create a diversion from the opposition's woes.
However, speculation was rife on social media with several ministers being bombarded with questions if they were the one referred to by Azmin.
