A strong 7.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded at the Celebes Sea, slightly north-east of Semporna, says the Malaysian meteorological department.

The tremors which were felt in Sabah, happened at about 2.13pm.

“However, there is no threat of tsunami,” said the department.
