More than RM5 million in cash and gold bars were seized in the case related to the arrest of a ministry secretary-general, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission sources said.

The secretary-general and his two sons were slapped with a seven-day remand at the Putrajaya Court today.

MACC seized eight kilogrammes of gold worth about RM1.6 million from a safety deposit box at a bank, a MACC source said.

Cash of almost RM1 million, which included AU$80,000 was seized from a safety deposit box of another bank, the source said.

It is believed that these are separate to the RM3 million in cash and gold bars seized earlier in relation to the case.

The anti-graft body also seized a Toyota Estima vehicle believed to belong to the suspect's son from his home.

The suspect is said to have more than 10 lots of land in his and his family members' names in the Klang Valley, the source said.

When contacted, MACC director of operations Azam Baki confirmed the information.

He said no new arrests have been made, but said MACC could call more witnesses to give statements over the matter.
