A Magistrate's Court in Putrajaya today ordered a 59-year-old secretary-general of a ministry and his two sons to be remanded for seven days.

The high-ranking government official arrived at 9.38am with his sons, aged 34 and 29, respectively.

DPP Ahmad Akram Gharib from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) told reporters that they have applied for the remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman then granted an order for them to be remanded until Jan 11.

It is understood that the secretary-general, who was picked up at his house yesterday, is being investigated for various offences under the MACC Act 2009, including abuse of power, gratification and money-laundering.

His sons are being investigated as accomplices or for abetment.

The official is said to be scheduled for retirement in several months from now.

According to several news reports, a lawyer's office in Puchong was also raided by MACC personnel today in connection with the case.

The Star reports that the MACC has interviewed the secretary-general's wife and siezed about RM3 million worth of items that includes gold bars, 150 luxury handbags, branded watches and foreign currencies.
