Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is of the opinion that those who create problems against Pakatan Harapan are actually supporters of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

“They claim they are fighting for the Malays but they actually support Najib (and) there’s high possibility that they have received 'dedak' (animal feed),” said Mahathir to laughter from the crowd, during the Pakatan Harapan Convention in Shah Alam today.

It is because of this, said Mahathir, that they are against anyone who do not join the movement to topple Najib.

Although he did not mention names, it appeared that he was referring to PAS as the Islamist party has made it clear that it will not join Pakatan Harapan.

“Don't say that you don’t agree with Pakatan Harapan because DAP is in it. That’s a lie.

“It’s not because of that. I, too, was a sworn enemy of (DAP leader) Lim Kit Siang,” he said to more laughter.

Meanwhile, citing his victories while in BN - having won at least five general elections with two-thirds majority - Mahathir said it was not due to BN being strong, rather, it was because the opposition was split.

“(We won) because of the weakness of the other party. If you don’t unite, you cannot win,” he advised.

And uniting, he explained, means that the opposition registers as one party and uses only one symbol.

“It doesn’t matter whether the candidate comes from DAP, PKR, Parti Amanah Negara or Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, he or she is our candidate.

“Like BN, which uses the 'dacing' (weighting scales) symbol, there is no more identification to any particular party except for BN,” he said.

Bersatu is expected to sign an agreement with Pakatan Harapan as the fourth party to join the opposition coalition.

It is however still unclear whether the agreement will be inked today or later.
