Denying culpability, former Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal said all allocations from his ministry would have gone through the state government before heading to the state departments.
As such, the Semporna MP said he denies any accusation that he is implicated in the mega corruption case in the Sabah Water Department, which has seen more than RM100 million cash seized from two officers there.
"As far as I am concerned, I did not receive any report on such a matter," he told reporters in Kota Kinabalu today.
He added other ministries may have also provided allocations to the state, which were then used by the Sabah Water Department.
"I categorically deny all allegations or inference of my involvement and my former ministry's involvement in the shocking alleged corrupt acts of a department under State Infrastructure Development Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan," New Straits Times reported today.
He again urged all to allow the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the matter before pointing fingers.
The two Sabah Water Department officers were last week arrested over suspicion of graft in granting government projects worth RM3.3 billion. The officers and one of the officers' brothers are remanded until Oct 11.
More than RM100 million was seized from their homes and bank accounts, along with jewellery worth RM3.64 million, 94 designer handbags worth half a million, nine luxury cars worth RM2.74 million and 127 land titles.
