An artist known for his provocative creations has put up posters in Los Angeles, lampooning the charitable foundations of Leonardo DiCaprio, who is embroiled in the 1MDB saga, and US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton as money-laundering enterprises.
The artist, known as Sabo, told The Hollywood Reporter that he had attempted to put up the artwork outside the actor's house, but was prevented from doing so by security personnel.
Following this, Sabo hung the poster on Sunset Boulevard across the street from ArcLight Cinemas.
"The artwork features the heads of both DiCaprio and Clinton spinning around in stacked clothes dryers with US$100 bills swirling around them.
"'The Clinton Crime Family: Laundering Money Since 1997', read one part of the washing machine.
"Another bit referred to former Clinton challenger Bernie Sanders: 'Bernie sold out for a lake house!!!'" read the report.
DiCaprio was slated to host a US$33,400-per-plate fundraising event for Clinton at his Hollywood Hills residence, but abruptly cancelled it, citing a scheduling conflict.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) complaint regarding 1MDB suggested that his charitable foundation could have benefited financially from those at the centre of the scandal.
The DOJ court filings, which mentioned him as Hollywood Actor 1, also alleged that money from 1MDB could have been used to fund the award-winning movie 'Wolf of Wall Street', produced by Red Granite Pictures, which was founded by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s stepson Riza Aziz.
Red Granite has denied this.
The Clinton Foundation, meanwhile, has been under scrutiny for donations provided to it by overseas figures.
Bill Clinton said recently that the foundation would not accept international money if Hillary is elected president.
