Kota Baru MP Zaid Ibrahim was found guilty of money politics by Umno disciplinary board this morning but escaped with a warning.

He was found guilty of contravening Section 2.2 of Umno's code of ethics during last year's party elections by using an agent to campaign.

However the disciplinary board was not as lenient to the younger brother of Umno Wanita deputy chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, Shahrir Abdul Jalil who was suspended of his membership for three years for holding gatherings during the party elections.

Shahrir won the Lembah Pantai division chief post in the last party elections.

Shocked Zaid

Meanwhile, when contacted Zaid appeared shocked with the decision.

"I'm speechless. I have nothing to say really except that I did not do any of the things they say I did," he said.

"This will certainly affect my personal integrity," added Zaid, who runs one of the biggest legal firms in the country.

He further said that he needed more time to think about his next move.

Food for guests

Shahrir too denied allegations that he had violated party's rules during the party elections last year.

"During the election campaign last year, I did not organise anything at my house or at other places to influence the delegates to vote me for the division's chief post," he told malaysiakini .

He was found guilty for money politics by the Umno disciplinary board for allegedly organising feasts at his house in Petaling Jaya for the delegates to the divisional meeting in July last year.

"What happened was that these Lembah Pantai Umno members came to my house... so I have to provide food for them. This is what the Malay custom is all about... I did just that," he said, adding that he would appeal against the board's decision soon.
