Former Umno senator Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor today criticised the classification of the auditor-general's report on 1MDB under the Official Secrets Act.
Ezam said the OSA should only be used on information relating to national security.
"The OSA cannot be used unless for national security. Using the OSA on the 1MDB report is clearly wrong and should be corrected," he said on Twitter.
Ezam was sentenced to two years jail for exposing classified information on vehicle import approved permits in 2001, when he was PKR Youth chief.
Former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin today also urged the government to declassify the report, following a leak by Sarawak Report.
Muhyiddin said the people needed to know if claims that billions were misappropriated from 1MDB were true.
Commenting on the leak, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today also noted that covering a crime was a crime in itself.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak earlier said that leaking confidential documents was treason as it affected national security.
