In what appeared to be a gruesome date with destiny, two pub employees were hacked to death and another seriously injured, when they were set upon by six youths armed with machetes outside the Destiny Pub in Jalan Duta in Kuala Lumpur last night.

The assailants, wearing face masks, attacked car jockey S Mogan, 21, female cashier R Mythurai, 23, and a disc jockey identified only as Allen, who were seated on the sidewalk of the pub in Solaris Dutamas 1.

Sentul police chief ACP R Munusamy said following the attack, Mogan and Mythurai, who sustained slash wounds in the head and body, were pronounced dead on admission to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Allen, who was warded at the hospital with similar wounds, is believed to be fighting for his life.

Munusamy said footage from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera showed six assailants armed with machetes, arriving in front of the Destiny Pub in two cars about 11pm.

He said one of the assailants started attacking Mogan who was seated on the sidewalk of the pub. The youth repeatedly slashed the victim while his other accomplices attacked Mythurai and Allen.

"However, there were no CCTVs inside. So far, no witnesses have come forward to facilitate investigations.

"The assailants were wearing face masks and were armed with machetes. They later fled the scene in the two cars. The incident occurred very fast," he said here today.

Munusamy said about three hours after the attack, a police team detained six men, aged between 20 and 33, to facilitate investigations into the double murders and attempted murder.

The suspects have been remanded for a week. Munusamy said initial investigations revealed that revenge was the motive behind the attack, adding that it could be linked to a birthday party which was held at the pub sometime ago.

At that party, three of the suspects were said to have had a misunderstanding with a few invitees before a fight broke out.

The pub management lodged a police report over the incident, leading to one of the suspects being charged for the offence while the other two were released after questioning.

Last night, the three were among the six alleged assailants who returned tothe pub to what the police believe was to exact revenge.
