An Umno parliamentarian has claimed that the opposition is not interested in explanations concerning the RM2.6 billion donation issue.

According to Annuar Manap, the opposition’s motive is to tailor the issue to suit its agenda, especially to launch attacks on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The Sekijang MP said explanations and truths would be disregarded because the opposition was fond of shifting the goalposts.

“That is why when Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir confirmed the donation was from his country, the opposition shifted its accusations...

“Before this, it kept insisting on explanations and evidence that the money came from Saudi Arabia. But when this was proven, it didn't accept it and raise other questions and allegations.

“This is the style of the opposition, politics of twists and turns,” Annuar told Umno Online .

He said he is certain the people can see how the opposition manipulated the issue despite all questions regarding the matter being answered.

“They (the opposition) do not want answers but just want to create a (negative) perception, which would then be played up during the ceramah (political talks),” he added.

The RM2.6 billion was wired to Najib’s personal bank accounts prior to the last general election.

The prime minister has repeatedly denied abusing public funds for personal gain and described the sum as a political donation.

Najib also blamed the corruption allegations against him on those conspiring to topple him from power.
