Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairperson Annuar Musa has delivered documents with new information pertaining to the purchase of a property by its subsidiary Mara Incorporated Sdn Bhd in Melbourne, Australia, to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

In delivering the documents, Annuar said that he and Mara will give their full cooperation to the anti-graft body in any investigations involving the government entity.

"We have to cooperate with MACC in any matter pertaining to Mara; if I have any new information I will assist the commission.

"Even though I myself have no idea how the investigation is going as MACC is not obliged to tell me.

"I feel that if there is new information that can help, I must give it the proper attention," he said when met after he handed over the new information to the anti-graft body at its headquarters in Putrajaya today.

MACC is currently investigating the purchase of Dudley International House in Melbourne, Australia, after allegations that it had been bought at a price far higher than its market value.

This follows the revelation by Australian daily The Age that a high-ranking Mara officer, a senior officer and a former politicians had allegedly used government funding to purchase a an apartment block in Melbourne for real estate fraud.

The Age had also claimed that “a group of very rich Malaysian officials” had overpaid as much as A$4.75 million (RM13.8 million) for the apartment block in the city in 2013.

New line-up of board of directors

Annuar had also told Mara has also now elected a new line-up of board of directors for Mara Inc.

According to the Ketereh MP, all new board of director members need to handle a few matters, especially the issue related to real estate in Australia.

“We have elected a whole new board. We did not renew the old board of directors members. We just elected the new ones last week.

“There are four of them in total and they have been given the trust to take all necessary actions,” he said.

He also expressed hope that the new board of directors will perform their duties and learn from past mistakes to ensure that what had happened will not be repeated.

“The new board of directors need to take an issue like this very seriously,” he added.
