The Dewan Rakyat turned into a mad house today after opposition and BN lawmakers bickered endlessly, after corruption allegations were made against Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan).

Shabudin Yahaya (BN-Tasek Gelugor) made claims that Lim had bought a house he previously rented at an unusually low price.

He said the house in Georgetown, was initially valued at RM2.5 million in 2008, and had extensive renovations made, but was sold to Lim last year for just RM2.8 million.

Shahbudin claimed this did not realistically reflect the rise in property value.

He linked the house purchase to the 2012 sale of two plots of land in Taman Manggis to private developers who want to build a private dental clinic and a hotel.

The Taman Manggis land was meant for low cost housing, implying that the low price was part of a kickback.

DAP lawmakers repeatedly protested the accusations, as the DAP secretary-general was not in Parliament to defend himself.

They also argued that this matter should be debated in the Penang State Assembly, and not Parliament.

Deputy speaker Ismail Mohamed Said, however, refused to entertain their protest, saying he allowed the opposition to make accusations against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak when he was not in Parliament either.

Noh Omar (BN-Tanjung Karang) said this is similar to how the corruption probe against former Selangor Menteri Besar Khir Toyo was initiated, after his controversial house purchase was raised in the Dewan Rakyat.
