Natural Resources and Environment Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is satisfied with an operation carried out in the first month of the moratorium on bauxite mining in Kuantan.
“Today, I was given a briefing on the operation during the moratorium. So far, I am happy,” he told reporters after a closed-door briefing at the Kuantan Port Authority.
Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob and officers from the Land and Mines Office (PTG), Department of Environment and the Road Transport Department.
Wan Junaidi was briefed on the status of the current integrated operation by the state PTG, status of bauxite stockpile in and outside of the port, as well as plans to upgrade the facility operation of the Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn Bhd.
He also visited the checkpoint and stockpile around the port area before returning to Putrajaya.
On Jan 6, Wan Junaidi announced the decision of the cabinet to impose a three-month moratorium, beginning Jan 15, on bauxite mining and export to prevent environment pollution from these activities.
