All six Universiti Malaya students who were accused of holding a press conference on campus without the university's permission were found guilty of the offence but were let off with a warning.
The decision was announced through a press statement this evening following the disciplinary hearing held yesterday.
"The decision of the proceedings held at 10pm on Feb 15 is effective immediately but an appeal can be made within 14 days of the written decision being received by the students," said the statement.
The six are Universiti Malaya Muslim Students Association (PMIUM) exco members Suhail Wan Azahar, Nur Hananie Chow Abdullah, Fahmie Nuaiman, and Muhammad Luqman and Universiti Malaya Association Youth (Umany) president Ho Chi Yang and vice-president Chua Hun Chi.
The students were slapped with disciplinary action for their press conference on Dec 14 last year where they claimed the university was planning to impose a 5GB cap per student for the campus' free Internet usage.
UM vice-chancellor Mohd Amin Jalaludin later denied the claim stating that there was already a 3GB cap and the university was in fact increasing it to 5GB.
He added that any plans the university had to charge for usage above the quota would not be done without first consulting the students.
All six students received show-cause letters dated Dec 29 asking them they justify their actions in holding the press conference.
