PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) have decided to form a new opposition coalition, named 'Pakatan Harapan'.

This was announced by PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail at a press conference today after a roundtable discussion among the three parties.

"The parties that attended (the roundtable discussion) have agreed to form an opposition coalition, which will be named Pakatan Harapan," she said.

PAS was invited to the discussion but it snubbed the invite.

PAS, DAP and PKR were part of the coalition Pakatan Rakyat, which broke up this year after PAS and DAP locked horns over hudud.

During the press conference, Wan Azizah also announced that a special committee comprising secretaries-general of each party would be formed to refine the terms of the coalition’s formation.

This includes the agreement, common policy, as well as work ethics between the parties.

"From today onwards, Pakatan Harapan will function fully as a political coalition to defend the rakyat and face Umno/Barisan Nasional," said Wan Azizah.

She added that the new coalition wlecomed the participation of all quarters to be with Pakatan Harapan in its mission to “save the rakyat and country from BN”.

Three parties to ink agreement

Asked to elaborate, she said the coalition is open to anyone who is against the "bobrok" (rotten) BN government.

"I did say about the ronins . If they want to help us, we are open, but they must be on the same page (as us)," she said.

As for the main difference between Pakatan Harapan and its predecessor Pakatan Rakyat, Wan Azizah pointed out that the three parties would ink an agreement.

She also denied that the coalition was back to square one, stressing they had made significant strides since the 2008 general election.

"Although we have differences, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, we have differences from the beginning.

"But (it's about) how to do something as responsible parties. It's not only about changing the prime minister, but we have to change the institutions of governance that have given the prime minister the means to abuse them," she said.
