Malay Armed Forces Veterans Association president Mohd Ali Baharom was freed from a sedition charge with regard to the Low Yat plaza brawl after the attorney general decided to drop it.

Deputy public prosecutor Suhaimi Ibrahim told Kuala Lumpur session court judge Azman Mustapha today that he had received instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to drop the charge.

Suhaimi said it was dropped due to insufficient evidence, following the submission of a letter of representation to the AGC, dated 14th August.

However, Suhaimi refused to divulge further details when asked by reporters, according to a Sin Chew Daily report.

Mohd Ali, who is also known as Ali Tinju was charged under Section 4 (1) (b) of the Sedition Act for allegedly making an inflammatory speech outside Low Yat Plaza in July this year.

When the case was over today, a few friends who had accompanied Mohd Ali to the court wanted to take photographs in the courtroom but were stopped by the police.

Mohd Ali was smiling when he walked out the court room as a free man. His friends raised his hands as a sign of victory before they left the court building.
