Take stern action against Azmin, MP urges MACC

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) must take stern action against Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali who is seen as trying to hide the actual cost of the restructuring of the state's water industry.

Kuala Selangor MP Irmohizam Ibrahim said this must be done as it involves a big amount of public funds and could affect the lives of the people of Selangor.

“I think it is a problem related to integrity, to provide information with regard to the management of public funds in Selangor.

“Therefore, the MACC must take stern action to investigate this case as it will affect the lives of the people if the problem is not solved,” he said, as quoted by portal Umno-Online.

Former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim ( photo ) on Tuesday had pointed out that Azmin only clarified the RM2 billion cost but did not emphasise on the balance of the acquisition cost of RM7.65 billion.

The Pelabuhan Klang state assemblyperson had also said that clarification by Azmin was crucial as it was feared that it would push up the cost of acquiring the water concession company, which would have an effect on the water tariff and subsequently burden the people of Selangor.

Clearly involves public funds

Meanwhile, Irmohizam, who is also a member of the Umno supreme council, urged the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to determine whether there is a need to investigate the matter, in a similar manner as how it investigated investment company 1MDB.

“This shows Selangor state government’s inefficiency, dilly-dallying with regard to the water issue in the state; this shows that they are trying to hide certain things that have started to be exposed to the public.

“So the rakyat must determine whether the PAC should investigate this since it clearly involves public funds,” he said.
