Tampin Umno Youth has passed a motion at its annual general meeting yesterday demanding for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation.
The emergency motion was tabled by Kampung Ulu Ladang Umno Youth branch chief Azman Abdullah, 42, and was well received by the 200 or so delegates present, according to a Sinar Harian report today.
Azman said this was in light of integrity issues affecting Najib such as the deposits of RM2.6 billion into his personal bank accounts and the 1MDB issue.
The motion by Tampin Umno Youth is the toughest stance against Najib to date.
Previous divisions upset with Najib had merely approved motions asking for the prime minister to explain the 1MDB issue or at most to go on leave.
The motion by Tampin Umno Youth read: "For Malays, Islam, and Malaysia, ask that Najib resign as prime minister and Umno president to so restore confidence, love and affection in Umno, particularly among the Malays and Bumiputera, to ensure Malays as the owners of this beloved country will continue to rule forever".
According to Sinar Harian , the annual general assembly's permanent chairperson Mohd Salleh Yahaya had asked delegates if they were agreeable to this and received unanimous support.
