YOURSAY ‘Not until he clears the air over the monies in his bank accounts.’
PM: No laws yet, can't say what's right or wrong
Kim Quek: PM Najib Razak, if this is your subtle way of telling the world that you are innocent with regards to your self-claimed “donation” of RM2.6 billion found in your accounts, you are deadly wrong.
In truth, the evidence indicate that you may be culpable of breaching the following laws, which include but not confined to the following:
• The MACC Act 2009
• Financial Services Act 2013
• Exchange Control Act 1953
• The Penal Code (for criminal breach of trust and cheating)
The fact that the multi-agency task force set up to probe the multiple breaches of law in respect of the financial malfeasance of 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion in your personal bank accounts has until today remained silent despite months of investigations and despite overwhelming exposure of criminal evidence in the public domain, speaks volume of the utter impotence of our law-enforcing bodies and the collapse of rule of law under the present regime.
Unless this is rectified soon, the fast deterioration of financial and economic health of our country will continue unabated.
Quigonbond: In again trying to be disingenuous, the PM misses the point. A leader pushes through any reform by having the moral compunction to do so in the first place. This moral compunction stems from knowing something is wrong.
What the PM is now saying is that he wants political funding law because he knows what he is doing is morally wrong, yet he still did it.
Indeed, he does not have the moral authority to push for this particular reform anymore - not until he clears the air over the monies in his bank accounts, how he got them, what were the demands from the donors, etc.
It is reasonable for Malaysians to assume that their leader has been compromised by external forces.
The Observer: You mean to say there is no morality issue here? That there is no moral consciousness that guides the actions of man rather the presence of man-made laws and regulations?
Does a leader of a nation not need to be guided by an inherent sense of what is right and wrong even without the need for legal provisions?
Rick Teo: Such a basic fundamental principle and Najib doesn't know whether it is right or wrong. Let me tell you. Taking money and putting it in your personal account is corruption and if you don't know this then you don't deserve to be a PM.
Malaysia Ku: So there is no specific law about "donations" to one's personal account. However, the Election Commission Act contains provisions about political funding and their limits.
But the PM has in his personal accounts, an extraordinary amount, perhaps the world's largest "donation", and he had no conscience to reveal this?
In other democracies, foreign donations for election funding would be treasonous for obvious reasons. Here the PM, despite being caught red-handed, is trying all means to wriggle out of an untenable situation.
Anonymous_1421806811: Only an idiot will get someone to deposit so much money into his personal bank account. Only fools will believe it is for donation.
If Najib is really innocent, he should show where all the money had gone and whom it was from.
Southpaw: Well, Najib, we are telling you it's wrong and you should pay for your alleged crime.
Getting the so-called integrity minister Paul Low and Pemandu CEO Idris Jala to put up a show won't help. We are not born yesterday.
KnockKnock: What would you, as well your Umno members, say if opposition leaders Lim Guan Eng and Wan Azizah Wan Ismail were to quietly deposit unquestionable amount of 'donations' directly to their individual personal accounts and later to quote your exact words after being caught?
Rupert16: Yes, Najib we trust you just as we would trust a fox to take care of our chickens.
Here is a dishonest man talking about integrity and transparency when he kept the RM2.6 billion he pocketed from everybody, including his ex-deputy, until it was exposed by The Wall Street Journal , Sarawak Report and The Edge .
Slumdog: The formation of a national consultative committee on political funding to craft a plan for political funding will be a waste of time because it will not be adhered to by Najib.
Remember before the last election Najib and bigwig Umno-BN politicians signed a pledge or some other worthless piece of paper saying that they promise to conduct a clean election.
Even before the ink on the document was dry, Najib’s bank account was increased by a mysterious donor by RM2.6 billion.
Ib: When you have lost your moral compass, you cannot tell right from wrong. We need a leader to save this country, not a weasel.
Kilgore: If Najib doesn't know it's wrong to accept a RM2.6 billion donation from a foreign source to fund an election campaign, then he is admitting to being a complete moron.
Clearwater: There is no law but there is moral stricture for Najib to answer three simple questions. Who donated RM3 billion? Why your personal account? Where did all the money go?
Mantra888: I woke up early this morning to find that BN ministers/leaders are still around, and with no chance of vanishing from planet Earth.
So I went back to sleep hoping my nightmare will be gone next time I wake up.
A PM who can’t tell right from wrong
