Muhyiddin mural gets Kluang folk all abuzz

Images of a mural supposedly in Kluang, Johor, bearing the face of sacked former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin have surfaced online.

The source of the pictures has been traced to the Instagram account of comedian and actor Shahrol Azizie Azmi, better known as Shahrol Shiro.

It is not certain whether Shahrol himself was involved in the making of the mural. One of the pictures show two men, with heads bowed wearing caps and holding spray cans next to a half-finished painting of Muhyiddin.

Shahrol captioned the picture as a 'covert operation' had taken place and asked the people of Kluang to 'stay tuned' for the completed result.

Another picture shows the finished mural, painted in mostly red and blue,  featuring Muhyiddin’s face and the words 'From the Kluang kids, (we) salute Muhyiddin Yassin'.

Due to the lighting, it is also not clear whether Shahrol himself is in the picture with 10 others.

The caption reads:

‘We do not know how to express using flowery words as to give promises,

We don’t have an abundance of money to buy unity,

We do not have bodies as strong as Hercules to bow down in respect, but we do have our own way of doing things.’

Malaysiakini has contacted Shahrol and is awaiting his comments on the matter.

'President lied to party members'

Muhyiddin was sacked as deputy prime minister last month, after he voiced out his criticism against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak over his handling of the 1MDB affair.

Nevertheless, he still holds his deputy president's post in Umno as the second person in command.

Muhyiddin’s dismissal has seen several Umno members expressing their dissatisfaction with the prime minister.

In the latest incident Langkawi Umno division delegate Anina Saaduddin did not mince her words in claiming that the party president had lied to all three million members of the party.

Johor, on the other hand, appears to be the fort of local-born Muhyiddin. He was also the guest-of-honour at the Kluang Umno division’s annual general meeting early this month.

Despite being ousted from the cabinet post and with many other Umno divisions retracting their invitations for him to grace their events, Muhyiddin received a rousing welcome in Kluang.
