PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang does not expect the splinter group Gerakan Harapan Baru to last long, according to a report by Channel News Asia.
“In our experience, these splinter groups do not last more than two years,” the PAS leader reportedly told the Singaporean broadcaster during an interview today.
Gerakan Harapan Baru is comprised of the PAS professionals who had been ousted in this year’s party election.
It is spearheaded by former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu ( photo ), and seeks to ‘facilitate’ the formation of a new party.
“Gerakan Harapan Baru or Harapan Baru aims to once again turn the wheels on political cooperation between parties, NGOs and the people.
“Harapan Baru will embrace an inclusive and progressive approach, and care for the people,” he said.
On another matter, Hadi also reportedly chastised DAP for not respecting PAS views.
"But DAP does not respect the view that in the Pakatan cooperation we can have different opinions and approaches but we cannot force the other partners.
“As such, PAS decided to cut ties with DAP. And DAP did this even earlier. But our relationship with some DAP leaders is still intact because there are DAP state leaders who disagree with the central leadership,” Hadi ( photo ) reportedly said.
The two parties had a falling-out after PAS began to push for the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan, which DAP opposes.
This eventually led to the collapse of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
