The fate of the Selangor state government became one of the focal points following the dismantling of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

Confirming he had an audience with the state ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah yesterday, Menteri Besar Azmin Ali said the sultan had emphasised on the need for stability.

This, he added, is to ensure that Selangor continues to develop and for the state government to fulfill its responsibilities towards the people.

Azmin said he also briefed the sultan on the situation in Pakatan, which had even sparked off calls for a fresh polls in Selangor.

"I guarantee the state government's stability and unity for it to be focused on efforts to fulfill the people's aspirations of economic development and social justice," he added in a statement.

After DAP and PAS severed ties, the spotlight fell on Selangor as the two parties have 15 seats each while PKR has 13.

There is also one independent assemblyperson, former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

However, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail clarified that a coalition government would remain intact in both Selangor and Penang.

Meanwhile, Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, said he also informed the sultan on the latest developments to finalise the agreement on the restructuring of water supply in the state.
