A new breed of royalty not beholden to Umno

YOURSAY ‘Crown prince Tunku Ismail is not willing to look the other way.’

Johor prince to Nazri: You are not God

CQ Muar: For over five decades, no royalty had come up with such moving concern for the welfare of its state and the nation. Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim of Johor has made a difference.

Never before in my entire existence was there such declaration by royalty, expressing such love and care for his subjects; for that matter all Malaysians. Without mincing words, the prince has reminded leaders of their responsibilities and duties to the nation.

Here lies the example of a future sultan and king, to give hope and aspiration to all citizens of a dilapidated nation dominated by a highly corrupted regime.

As for Tourism Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz, do mind your language henceforth. Stop abusing your so-called power by intimidating others with threats, and avoid barking up the wrong tree.

Abasir: Clearly this is a new breed of royalty who is not beholden to Umno, not willing to look the other way, as the lying and pillaging continues in the name of race, religion and royalty, and clearly not willing to mindlessly read on cue from an Umno script.

Given that self-serving Umno has effectively subverted, if not removed all checks and balances that guide and ensure good governance, the conventional separation of royalty from politics may not hold any longer.

The people and the nation need to be protected from Umno and out of desperation, it is to a truly independent and benevolent royalty that they now look to.

Hearty Malaysian: A good whack from the Johor prince to an arrogant minister who is either ignorant or chose to ignore the reality that a minister is the servant of citizens, not the other way round, because he is paid by our taxes to perform his duties.

So don't challenge anyone to a fight when being criticised.

Anonymous_1392518430: My salute to your highness. You are a light in the Malaysian political darkness.

Goldee: Nazri reminded Tunku Ismail that it is Umno who protects royalty and Islam. Umno leaders think they are mini gods and behave like thugs, claiming they protect this and that.

But Islam protects its followers and the sultan protects his subjects - not the other way round.

Tunku Ismail said rightly that he would rather be cursed for standing for what is right, than being loved for defending what is wrong. We salute you Tunku, for standing up for the rakyat.

Hermit: Umno was born in Johor, and for more than 50 years it was intoxicated with power.

I smell this political party is preparing its grave at the very place it was born. Umno Baru of today has lost almost all the values of its founding fathers.

Keturunan Malaysia: My most humble salutation to your royal highness for saying what you mean and meaning what you say.

NAK: It is widely known that this minister can be very arrogant, but I didn’t expect him to be that arrogant to the extent of wanting to "whack" our Johor crown prince. He is either out of his mind or simply miscalculated his cunning moves this time around.

Tunku Ismail's response to the minister is simply marvelous. Mr Minister, please do not push your luck.

Firestone: Tunku Ismail, thank you for speaking up on behalf of the poor, the weak and the downtrodden.

If we spoke, we would have been "whacked" left, right and centre with sedition, with Pota and whatever else and remanded for six days.

Swipenter: Umnoputeras like Nazri are not gods but they think they are gods. It is timely for your highness to whack them back to their proper place for we, the ordinary rakyat, have been truly whacked by them good and proper for decades, whilst they rob us and the country blind.

Any whimper of dissent from us is met with the brute force of law. Whatever and whenever it suits them, they either make use of either race, religion, or the Malay royalty to threaten, divide and shut us up.

It is a great comfort to know you are standing by us and not just giving good speeches unlike some, even though we understand that you need to be apolitical.

UMYES: Tunku Ismail, what you have said was like a morning shower that cleared the hazy mood lingering over this beautiful land.

RR: In a constitutional monarchy, the king or royalty does not take political sides. However when the opposition's (who are also elected by people) views or corrections made for the better in the interests of the people are sadly ignored by the government, then there is a moral duty for royalty to righteously advise the politicians. The crown prince rightly expressed this in the interests of the nation.

WSLAm: Your Highness, I am deeply moved by your message. We Johoreans are very proud of you. When we were young we had great respect to the Johor sultans for looking after the welfare of the people.

I still remember that the late sultan personally overseeing that peace and harmony be maintained during the May 13 racial outbreak in 1969. Johor was peaceful then. We are indeed very fortunate to have your highness as our future sultan.

Ipoh Pp: I carry up my two hands in salute and with tears in my eyes. For too long, we the humble and lowly rakyat, have been trampled and spat upon. We have been treated as mere toys and tools for the politicians to squeeze and steal from, in the likes of the GST.

Today this beautiful country of ours is in dire straits and will soon become a failed state. A thousand thanks to you, Tunku, for standing up for us. May God shower you with more blessings and guide you and your father in the rule of the beautiful state of Johor.

It’s indeed heartening to see such a young man with so much wisdom and care for his people. Wish more of the royals from the other states will do the same for their people. (From a 72-year-old retiree in Perak).

Lin Wenquan: This is a good piece of Johor crown prince's mind. He has summarised our understanding of what Umno-BN is after years of stranglehold and condescension towards us, to the extent that it brooks no constructive criticism.

When a constitutional entity like the government rides roughshod over the citizens, a ticking off by the monarchy is like a light at the end of the tunnel.

Umno-BN, with its attendant wrongdoings cannot afford to offend the royalties who will seize this opportunity to pay back the humiliation they swallowed in silence when Dr Mahathir Mohamad hypnotised the masses to stand behind him, in practically stripping them off their immunity from prosecution.

Umno-BN has used the royalty for their own nefarious ends when it favours them. Now that chicanery is been threatened by none other than those whose auspices they have oft-times misused and abused.

Anonymous_1419577444: Indeed, this is the most comforting statement that Malaysians have received for a long time. Malaysia actually has a leader who will stand up and speak for the rakyat.

I am sure every single Johorean (maybe excluding those this message is meant for) and every right-thinking Malaysians supports Tunku Ismail on this.
