The PAS Dewan Ulama wing's motion to cut ties with DAP has been approved without debate by PAS' motions committee at the ongoing 61st PAS muktamar in Kuala Selangor today.

However, this does not mean that the motion, to be tabled tomorrow, will be immediately implemented as the central committee will only decide on the matter after the muktamar.

"It won't be debated. It just means the (motions) committee has accepted it without debate. Executing (the motion) is up to the (central) committee," newly-minted PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad told reporters after today's muktamar session ended.

 

A copy of the list of motions to be tabled tomorrow obtained by the media shows the motion by the ulama wing as one of three motions that have been approved without debate.

The other two motions are for all PAS members to support the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Law enactment amendments and to urge the education ministry to implement the teaching of Al-Quran and Hadis in all primary and secondary schools nationwide.

The motion by the ulama wing was proposed in retaliation to DAP's continued attack on party president Abdul Hadi Awang following the hudud law fracas which saw PAS and DAP going for each other's throats.

'They slap, we slap'

DAP itself has already cut ties with Hadi, whom they complained had not adhered to the Pakatan Rakyat common policy framework and had snubbed Pakatan leadership meetings to resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, re-elected central working committee member Nasrudin Hassan said the ulama wing motion was a 'lesson' for DAP for attacking the Islamist party.

“They slapped us and we said no, don’t do that. But they then slapped our president.

“So now we slap them back. Let them know how it feels to be slapped,” he said, to loud cheers from the delegates the muktamar.

“Do not test our patience. Even though we from the ulama wing wear skullcaps, turbans and are mostly in robes, remember that under all these there are elbows and knees that have yet to be used,” the Temerloh MP threatened.
