It's not only politicians on both sides of the divide pulling their hair out over Lembaga Tabung Haji's (LTH) land purchase of debt-ridden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), even local star singer Siti Nurhaliza has weighed into the fiasco.
"What happened in the Tabung Haji case is very shameful. Allah please protect us," she said in a Twitter posting.
LTH was embroiled in controversy after it paid RM188.5 million for 1.56 acres of 1MDB's 70-acre Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) land.
1MDB had purchased the entire 70 acres from the government for a mere RM194.1 million.
This translates to a purchase of RM2,773 per square feet by TH, while 1MDB bought the land for only RM64 per square feet from the government.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad ( photo ), who was among the first and fiercest critics of 1MDB, had described this as a bailout of the company which is struggling to repay its RM42 billion debt.
This is not the first time the popular singer had given her view on national politics.
Previous, Mahathir had admitted that he was alone in his criticism of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and 1MDB.
Subsequently, Siti in a posting on photo sharing site Instagram said she will always love and be with Mahathir for the former prime minister's past contributions to the country.
"He should be appreciated and he is a good example," she said in her posting which received over 17,000 "likes".
Her posting was accompanied by a photograph of Mahathir with his quote which read: "I know I'm alone".
1MDB is an entity wholly owned by the Finance Ministry which is a portfolio held by Najib.
