Once again, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has stood firm in the face of a raft of criticisms and allegations coming from Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his detractors.
In his brief May Day message uploaded on his blog , Najib said that he is "not fond of entertaining" allegations that have no basis.
"This is because in the era of social media, issues can easily spread without limits.
"Entertaining these issues all the time will only divert my focus from efforts to develop the nation. To increase productivity, we must focus on our work," he added.
As prime minister, Najib said his leadership style is more focused on efforts to develop the nation.
"I will continue to explain the issues which are raised from time to time, but let us not lose focus on the responsibilities entrusted (in us) because we are too preoccupied with the never ending issues brought up," he added.
Najib noted that Phase 1 of the MRT project is 60 percent complete, keys for the Projek Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) are being distributed, the second Penang bridge has been constructed, and the economic sector has opened up 1.5 million new employment opportunities over the past five years.
He said that programmes to develop human capital such as Tekun, Superb, Teraju, 1Azam, and Seed have created quality and successful talents.
"Transformation programmes such as these are more important in raising the quality of each Malaysian citizen," he said.
Mahathir has called on Najib to resign, warning that his continued presence at the helm would cause Umno and BN to be defeated in the next polls.
