After a gruelling 12-hour debate, the Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota) was passed without amendment at 2.25am on Tuesday.

The Act is highly contentious because it allows detention without trial and cannot be subject to judicial review.

This has sparked fears that the law can be abused, much like the now defunct Internal Security Act (ISA).
