Anwar attends dad's funeral, Dr M pays last respects
Anonymous #43385867: RIP Tuan Ibrahim. My deepest condolences to Anwar Ibrahim and his family on the death of his father. Happy to see Anwar being let out of jail to attend his father’s funeral, but why treat him like a dangerous criminal with armed guards? He was our deputy prime minister, wasn't he?
NuckinFuts: Sad to know that the old man was alive to witness the terrible things done to his son when he was alive. He will be telling a lot of these misdeeds to his creator now and no anti-sedition nonsense will be stopping him. Condolences to Anwar and family.
A Selangor Voter: Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, rest in peace, sir. You have contributed to us fighter of a son. Please guide him and us from up there. God bless.
Goldee: My deepest condolences to the family of Anwar Ibrahim on the demise of his beloved father.
Ronald: Totally ridiculous. Do the prison guards need to be present by the side of Anwar Ibrahim throughout the entire funeral?
Why, is Anwar going to run away? Is Anwar a criminal? No respect whatsoever even for the dead by the authorities. I am ashamed of my country.
David Dass: My heartfelt condolences to Anwar and his family on the demise of his father. It is good that he was allowed to attend his father's funeral and it is also good that former minister Mahathir Mohamad was there with his wife. I am not going to read anything more to this than to say I am glad for Mahathir’s presence.
Mushiro: My deepest condolences to Anwar and family. It was very nice of the authorities to allow Anwar to pay respects to his late father. But was it necessary to have 12 uniformed and armed prison guards and many more in mufti to escort Anwar.
I noted that our "elder statesman Mahathir" left minutes before Anwar arrived at his father's house - this must be a new Umno Islamic culture.
Umno women’s chief Sharizat Abdul Jalil and husband came for two minutes - must be very busy, and also following the new Umno Islamic culture.
Anonymous #37634848: "From God we come and to God we return". Life is a short journey here. We forget our beginning and our end. We become arrogant, greedy, power crazy, forget the creator.
Mahathir said "Ibrahim was a good man". He had given a wonderful son who struggled all his life for justice and to right wrongs.
Mahathir made the biggest mistake in his life by slandering Anwar, the only credible leader born to fight for justice and fairness in Malaysia. May the souls of his parents RIP, Amen.
Mahathir should repent and admit Anwar's innocence. That should pave way for his release. Your time is near too, Tun.
Whatsup: Our deepest condolences, Anwar. The price you pay is too high for a better tomorrow for us all. We won't forget what this regime has done.
Onepen: My heartfelt condolences to the family of our beloved Anwar on the passing of his father. May God bless his soul. In this time of grief we should remember the sacrifice of Anwar for the people of Malaysia.
He was in prison when both his parents passed away. His late father was a former MP for 10 years. Anwar could have had a life of comfort and luxury. But he chose to be different by championing the cause of the poor and the weak. My condolences once again, Anwar, may your father's soul rest in peace.
Wira: God bless you, saudara Anwar. We thank you for your steadfastness to the Malaysian cause.
7888888: Anwar's family is the uncrowned royal family of Malaysia.
Gunnerrun: It's a good sign that the Prisons Board allowed Anwar to attend the funeral. Also for politicians from BN to pay their last respects.
Anwar, you are still the man, many regard you as the one that has truly brought the people of all races together. All your struggles and sacrifices will always be remembered! Condolences on the passing of your father.
Anonymous_3f4b: Prominent people are paying respects to Anwar's father not to Anwar. Anyway where are the DAP leaders? Have they forgotten Anwar? Where are the PAS ulama also?
It is good that the prisons department allowed Anwar time out to pay his last respects but this should be the exception not the norm, as anything can happen when out of prison, even though he was flanked by armed guards.
Roar For Truth: Our condolences to Anwar and family. Thumbs up to home minister and Prisons Department to allow Anwar to attend his father's funeral. We should be at our best behaviour at the death of someone no matter how we may disagree on politics. Syabas to Mahathir, Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and others for coming.
Malu Malu: We pray that Ibrahim's soul will rest in peace. Anwar saw his two parents laid to rest whilst in prison. How saddening it must have been for him.
His pardon was rejected and he was not informed. Whilst the decision is not a pleasant one, I hope it is a signal that Pardons Board will now meet more often and decide very quickly, instead of the lengthy delays that we have seen - in some cases even outlasting the sentences.
There are so many things not right with this country and we hope that one day, when his coalition comes to power, Anwar will right all these wrongs done on rakyat, instead of dodging the issues as in the last few months before his imprisonment. Selangor can make many changes but sadly we see nothing new in the new MB.
J. D. Lovrenciear: Mahathir, that paid respects to the late father of Anwar signals hope for this deeply wounded and maimed nation. Bring it on Tun.
You know there can be only one and only one able successor to you. Let that man take this nation from its crumbling ‘sitz-im-leben’ (situation). Do it for the love of the 52 percent of voters. It’s now or never.
Krissman: You gave birth to a son you should be very proud of, Mr Ibrahim. RIP and the day your son is going to make you even more proud is not very far away.
What's new: Anwar, your sacrifices to the nation and to all Malaysians are immense and remarkable. We wish you well and let justice be restored to our beloved country. May your father’s soul rest in peace.
P.Dev Anand Pillai: I pity this man, when he was serving time for Sodomy I, his mother died, now when he is in for Sodomy II, his father goes. I hope he finds the courage and strength to continue in his quest for reform.
Worldly Wise: I knew Ibrahim. He was a simple fellow. He would chuckle often as if in agreement or in acknowledgement that I made a point. May his soul find solace.
