YOURSAY ‘Using lawsuits to stifle MP's criticism counters ‘world-best democracy’ claim.’
Najib's lawsuit won't silence me on 1MDB
Versey: Hats off to MP Tony Pua. Malaysia needs more representatives of calibre like you and Rafizi Ramli who have the courage to stand up and speak up for the good of the nation and people persistently.
You and Rafizi plus a few others are the real gems that give hope to the young to envisage a better Malaysia. What's wrong for an elected representative of the people to query any issue that affects the public interest?
Aren't elected representatives supposed to act on behalf of the interests of the people?
What's the point of electing representatives who keep quiet on such issues, and only know how to brown-nose the authorities?
What’s more the mismanagement or failure in 1MDB could affect the country's financial health and economy.
I support the idea of setting up a fund the public, to donate and back up MPs Pua and Rafizi who stuck out their necks for the sake of the public. Be of good courage and keep up the good work. God bless you all.
Hang Babeuf: PM'S threat? Desperate man, desperate times, desperate action. Not impressed.
Firestone: How can a prime minister use lawsuits to stifle an elected MP's criticism or inquiries? I thought he claimed Malaysia is the "world's best democracy"?
Pua and Gobind Singh Deo: Set up a legal defence fund (which I think Rafizi might also need soon) and I am sure millions of Malaysian will be most happy to contribute their share to fight this mother of all scandals.
CQ Muar: You're on the right track, Pua. Rest assured the millions of Malaysians are with you all the way. So are those countless millions - both Malaysians overseas, and other democratic and right-minded nationals of other countries.
You've just checkmated the prime minister of Malaysia by willing to contest the suit filed against you. This "hot potato" will soon be in more hot soup, which will ultimately bring down the final curtain on him.
Hereafter, Najib and wife Rosmah Mansor will be sitting up nightly feeling depressed and restless with all the problems surrounding them. No amount of sleeping pills or sedatives will be of much help. Perhaps an early exit by stepping down as PM will render some temporary relief.
Joe Lee: Najib has now been stabbed a few times in the back - by former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and yesterday by Muhyiddin Yassin, Najib’s 'loyal' deputy. Very soon, they will plunge the keris straight into his chest.
Tony Pua will not have to defend himself, because Najib will be no more, pretty soon. Sigh, we may not see him get grilled by Gobind Singh Deo in court.
Limfly: Tony Pua, I am one of the millions of Malaysians who support what you are doing. Soldier on.
Malaysia ku: The silent one will not testify in open court. The cornered judges will only accept affidavits from him as evidence. That is, if the case comes to court at all.
Judges will make all sorts of excuses for him to be abstained as a witness who will be subject to cross-examination. The untouchable one may yet win the day then. Let's watch this drama unfold.
Angry Citizen: Go for It, Pua. The rakyat are with you. I mean those who do a decent day's work and pay their taxes, and were brought up by their parents to tell the truth, unlike the riff-raff that you now see so often here with their idiotic and pathetic comments.
Pputeh: Pua you are on the right track. As an MP voted by the people we expect and demand you to expose any wrongdoing. It’s your god-given duty as a responsible MP.
Let me say I am a pensioner and will definitely donate to a fund to help you and Rafizi, if need be. Malaysiakini, we ask for your assistance to set up this fund, which is the least you can do.
Many a time you have maintained that you are a responsible online news portal and so now please set up this fund.
Wg321: Instead of suing every one, Najib has a very simple solution. Just declare that the issue of 1MDB is under the Official Secrets Act (OSA)?
This is what the Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi did when he wrote a letter to the FBI saying the gambling kingpin Paul Phua had helped in national security projects for Malaysia.
Citizen No.26: I would like to request Pua to set up a fund for the defence of the legal suit and the research into 1MDB. As a responsible and caring citizen, I will personally contribute to the fund.
I am very certain that there are many, many more other responsible citizens in this country who would want to contribute to the fund, simply for the sake of our future generations.
Clearwater: Just make sure Najib gets grilled on the witness stand should things go to trial. In all honesty, I don't think he'll let it go that far. The man has far too much to lose and too many skeletons to hide.
Kang Kong King: More will be exposed during the trial. A desperate Najib will be more desperate when hearing begins.
Dalvik: The sane Malaysians, who seek truth, will definitely support you with all the hearts. I am one of them. Kudos, Pua. If you need funds for this lawsuit, just set up a donation bank account and I am happy to donate.
Gaji Buta: Pua should be rewarded with a 'tun' for saving the financial system.
Make sure PM in court to be cross-examined
