YOURSAY ‘The party is always on the lookout for scapegoats to attack.’

Ismail Sabri's outburst seditious, say MPs

Casey: I've known and had worked closely with Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob when he was a young practising lawyer.

I must say that Ismail Sabri is neither a racist nor a religious bigot. Ismail Sabri had elected to pursue a career in politics for one primary reason - wealth.

Once in it, his behaviour is characterised by a set of symptoms associated with the ‘ wet monkeys ’ syndrome of Umno.

Like most Umno's politicians, he continues to play to the tune and subscribe to brandishing the racial card; sometimes ignorant of its negative consequences, but at times calculated at achieving shallow political mileage and short-term popularity.

Unfortunately, the race-based paradigm as adopted by Umno has proven to be outdated. The standard operating procedure associated with race-based policy, which is the cause of abuses of power, corruption, leakages and falling efficiencies, can no longer be depended upon to overcome or to solve obstacles it places on the socio-economic progress of the nation.

For the nation to free itself, a revolutionary operating procedure or a shift in paradigm is required; and the new paradigm necessitates Umno be voted out.

Vijay47: Just for the sheer heck of it, let us turn this issue on its head. What would the inspector-general of police (IGP) and the missing-in-action (MIA) prime minister do if someone urged Chinese businessmen to stop trading with Malays?

Yahoo: Ismail Sabri should be charged for sedition - besides mentioning going against the "Chinese traders", he also ask the Malays to boycott them.

Why only target the Malays when he should have urged all Malaysians to boycott Chinese businesses? In other words, Sabri is instigating hate between the two races.

James TCLow: Stop all the rambling and rumbling, you opposition MPs. The Sedition Act shall be invoked to punish only you. BN MPs are, since time immemorial, immune.

Fairnsquare: If Malay traders sell cheaper than Chinese, even the Chinese will prefer to buy from the Malay traders.

A person buys from whoever offers reasonable prices. If the Chinese traders are charging more, the Malay traders can corner the market by selling cheaper, that is how business is done.

The role of sundry shop has been taken over by hypermarkets because of competitive pricing. Most sundry shops owned by Chinese have diversified into mini-markets or other business.

For those who don't know business, they will just blame the world for their 'misfortune' and remain in the rut. Ismail Sabri, it is idiots like you who are the real threat to the progress of the Malay community.

Old Timer: One wonders how ministers in Malaysia are being chosen. Maybe they all should sit for a qualifying exam set by the rakyat.

With this quality of minister, how can Malaysia be developed? This is typical of Umno ministers, always look for scapegoats instead of solutions. Ismail Sabri should resign.

Frustrated: I do agree the Chinese are taking advantage, especially in coffee shops. The price of a cup of coffee is RM2. Ridiculous. And the portion of keow teow is ridiculously small. Vegetable prices are being sold at idiotic prices.

These Chinese traders are not following the price control laws. Enforcement and revocation of licences should be the order of the day. Shut them down if they flout the law. In Singapore and Australia, you don't have nonsense like this.

Freethinker: Frustrated, what has price hikes got to do with races? A teh tarik cost RM2 and nasi lemak with fried chicken cost RM5 at the place where I work. Prices are increasing in all sectors. The government is doing nothing about it, but blames it on the Chinese instead.

Everything is the fault of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and the Chinese. The fact is, who is running the country and making government policies?

Malaysia Ku: This is a measure of Najib's ruling ‘elites’. The head is a globe-trotter, the silent one, who needed to be told to abandon his golf escapades to attend to a critical flood situation.

His deputy is a Malay-first Malaysian, representing the epitome of the steep decline in our education standards.

The home minister is an arrogant man with alleged triad connections in Phua-gate. The defence minister once brandished his keris. The others down the line are bigots, racists, or rent-seekers. And their underlings are infected by the follow-the-leader syndrome.

The profligacy of intelligence coupled with the reckless financial licentiousness of these ruling ‘elites’ have resulted in the present situation - racial polarisation, religious bigotry, financial ruin. Need we say more?

Spinnot: "Later, Ismail Sabri issued a statement clarifying that he was not referring to all Chinese businesses but only a few ‘stubborn’ ones."

By that statement, he implies that there are only "a few" Chinese traders who are not cutting their prices when the overwhelming majority of traders have done so. What a dishonest and stubborn racist.

Ismail Sabri, if you’re a very nice man...

Another Umno man walks the well-trodden path
