No justification for Charlie Hebdo massacre

YOURSAY ‘You must condemn such act unconditionally. Period. No buts.’

'Charlie Hebdo provokes, but wrong to kill'

Aries46: Former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad can be trusted to give his two cents worth whenever radical Muslims are caught with their pants down.

It’s always about Islam being insulted or Muslims being provoked or Malays being challenged. But when non-Muslims are insulted, threatened and bullied by Muslim mobs, he goes into silent mode.

The terrorists involved in the Charlie Hebdo massacre are nothing but cowards. Is Mahathir contending that all those victims slaughtered were responsible for the editorial policy of that weekly?

Furthermore, France is a free country that practices freedom of speech and those who cannot accept their modern liberal culture must learn to live with it or stay out.

Louis: There is no excuse whatsoever to kill. Christians have been constantly insulted by non-Christians. Jesus is called all sorts of names, not to mention the number of caricatures and cartoons depicting Him in most humiliating ways, yet the Christians endure.

At best, they stage peaceful demonstrations. Why do Christians have a bigger threshold of tolerance?

No churches or their leaders give fiery sermons instigating their flocks to seek revenge. Instead, they meekly advise them to pray that the perpetrators see the truth.

Ferdtan: “Insulting prophets and others should not be done. Maybe their religious faith has weakened but in a civilised society, we should respect the faith of others." said the Perkasa patron Mahahtir.

Truly Mahathir, in a civilised society we don’t kill and massacre innocent people because of provocations, no matter how bad it is. By rationalising the reasons behind such barbaric acts in whatever way, you are indirectly condoning the Islamic terrorists in their hideous crimes against humanity.

Mahathir, there are no exceptions to such cruel acts; you must condemn such act unconditionally. Period. No buts.

There are no valid reasons to kill the innocents. This exactly why such crimes kept on repeating; it is people like Mahathir and the silent moderate Muslims are not horrified enough to condemn the terrorists without reservation.

Ask yourself Mahathir, Charlie Hebdo , a satirical newspaper, did not only make fun of Islam but also Christianity, especially Catholics and all French political leaders, even its country president.

Do they kill innocents due to such provocations? No. Why only a certain sect of religious people is offended to the extent of taking such extreme measures?

Anonymous_1371637464: What a pity that such a senior Malaysian figure would suggest that Islam is not strong enough to withstand verbal challenges in whatever guise.

And in doing so infer an excuse for the barbaric behaviour that intolerance has bred in a small number of his faith and in Malaysia.

John F Kennedy once said: "Those who suppress peaceful revolution make violent revolution inevitable". Don't let greed for power blind leaders from respect and tolerance in all their forms.

Myrights: I don't understand why people are condemning him but what did Dr M say that is wrong?

He was merely stating that the French weekly had provoked Muslims' sensitivities and that might have led some very angry or even fanatical Muslims to carry out the revenge attacks. He also stressed that he did not condone the killings and that Muslims should not kill.

So, what was wrong with his speech? I think people should learn from this experience and know that there are really fanatical people in this world.

This is in many ways the same as cases of students who went to schools and shot other students and teachers because they were teased in school.

Fact is the world is filled with crazy people and we just need to recognise that this is reality, so we should be respectful.

Yes, you have the right to disagree with Mahathir or anyone else, but don't flaunt your stupidity by talking about things that you don't even understand to begin with.

Read again what was said by Mahathir in the article and you will find 90 percent of the comments here are totally irrelevant and way off the track.

Mahathir never said murder is okay. Don't put words in his mouth; otherwise it is you who will be saying all the bad things that you yourself hated to hear.

Avatar 111: Why should people react to provocations and insults by some people who do not share the same faith as you.

Let your Almighty God will take care of it and punish these wrongs.

StopMonkeying: Making caricatures of prophets is provocative, but threatening to burn another's holy book and desecrating the same isn't. What warped logic is this?

The golden rule is don't do unto others what you don't like others to do to you.

Dr M gives tacit approval to gruesome killings?
