Eminent 25, try inviting PM to a game of golf

YOURSAY ‘And if possible, invite US President Barack Obama too.’

Eminent 25: We'll only see PM, no one else

Sirach: In the midst of the tragic news of the AirAsia crash and the worst-ever floods, it is heartening to hear that the Eminent 25 have refused to meet with this unknown Malay group and insist instead on meeting only with the PM.

Najib Razak would do well to accede to such a meeting. His reputation is already at a nadir and could only get a lift from the encounter.

It is also encouraging that a second statement from an even larger group of prominent persons is on the way. Whilst the cry for moderation is ringing out loud, the self-proclaimed moderate is keeping his characteristic stony silence.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad's ballyhooed slogan was "leadership by example" (whatever that meant). Najib's unspoken (obviously) slogan has to be "leadership through silence".

Dr Suresh Kumar: Bravo to the 24eM, stick to your guns and do not fall into Umno's trap.

All discussions should be held openly and transparently and not behind 'closed' doors, as the issue on hand is of national interest and importance which can potentially pave the way for the formation of an inclusive, tolerant and a respectful egalitarian Malaysian society.

I mentioned 24eM and not 25eM because I have my doubts about the sincerity of one of those in the list. I am alluding to Dr Hassan Marican, the former director-general of the Health Ministry.

I don't wish to dig into the past however. I know people do change and 'bertaubat', so I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt.

This is just a precaution as we do not want moles to be planted to create internal strife and destroy the noble intention of these eminent Malays.

My best wishes to this amazing group of Malay intellectuals who can potentially change the fate of this country in a positive direction.

Malaysian 53: It’s good that the Eminent 25 only want to meet the PM. Najib will now deny he ordered Malay Consultative Council (MPM) to meet them.

It is important for the discussion between the PM and the Eminent 25 to take account of all Malaysians, including the non-Muslims.

We are all Malaysians and the Eminent 25 can see the creeping of Talibanism into the Islamic organisations in the various states and with hudud coming out now, still being used by Umno to destroy PAS once and for all.

If that actually happens with PAS being wiped out, that would be the best contribution ever by Umno.

The Analyser: I'm beginning to wonder about the supporters of the Eminent 25 group. Did you read the letter? Did you understand the letter? My analysis is that it's all about Malays and religion.

Now I know I'm not the smartest monkey in the kampung, but to me that says more divisiveness in the nation, and at the moment the last thing the country needs is more religion and more division.

Is it that you are doing another ABU (Anything But Umno) and will mindlessly support anything that is anti-Umno, no matter how unproductive it might be.

Headhunter: To the G25, be steadfast and stand your ground. It's not a surprise that you are attacked and by the people that your group and us the majority of Malaysians have been saying are destroying our peaceful existence.

If the PM makes excuses to avoid a meeting with your group, may I suggest that you arrange a golf game with him, and if possible, invite US President Barack Obama too.

FellowMalaysian: Noor Farida speaks with authority and emphatic vigour and her message of the 25 Eminent Malays' wish to meet Najib only and no one else should be respected by all, including the PM.

The group has offered their intentions of seeing Najib clearly spelled out and they have genuine concerns of the PM's lackadaisical approach towards the hate and insidious ranting vented by extremist groups such as Isma and Perkasa.

I wish Noor Farida and her team meet with success in their endeavours soon.

Ckl0001: Eminent 25, thank you for speaking up. May the force of peace, justice and moderation be with you. Many of us share your desire to see peaceful co-existence among all Malaysians.

Speedy Gonzalez: Well done, Eminent 25! You are doing Malaysians proud by standing your ground. There may be a huge battle ahead but please continue with your noble pursuit and bear in mind always that you have millions of Malaysians behind you.

I believe these millions of voiceless people have placed great hope in your fight on their behalf. Please do not give in to any pressure that may be applied on you.

May Almighty God bless all of you in your noble battles for a truly harmonious and just nation where the peoples of every community can live together in much-deserved happiness and goodwill, as Malaysians.

Iwatch: All these so-called NGOs, Perkasa and Isma, which are not upholding or respect the basic and fundamental laws of the federal constitution, are not worth to meet with.

They are just a bunch of hypocrites and work for a political party to keep them to hold onto power.

Noor Farida, you are 100 percent right to see only the ‘absentee’ PM.

SRMan: The Umno-owned Malay media only knows how to play dirty politics and write warped logic.

Eminent 25, we are with you. The future generations will remember you all as the saviour of the nation.

Bravo to G25, stick to your guns
