YOURSAY ‘If cartoonist Zunar’s book is not banned, then buying it is legal.’
Police demand list of Zunar's online customers
Ferdtan: How does one detect authoritarian governments? Simple. They are always unreasonably afraid of their own shadows. Being afraid of a political cartoonist called Zunar is one.
If the government is as popular as they claimed, and if they are right as they like to say, then why are they not brave enough to debate with cartoonists such as Zunar?
It is because they cannot that they harassed them and banned their comics. Remember, before the previous Bersih rallies, the police were arresting citizens wearing yellow T-shirts.
They can only use force; that is the only action a dictatorial government knows how to response to criticisms.
At least the BN government has a partner in crime in Thailand, which is ruled by a military-imposed government after a coup in May. Their police had detained students and banned their people from using the latest ‘Hunger Games’ film’s three-finger salute as a sign of defiance.
Authoritarian regimes are the same everywhere - the only difference is the degree of harshness in their rule.
Odysseus: If cartoonist Zunar’s book is not banned, then buying it is legal. Why do the police want to know who bought it? This seems to be a subtle method to harass potential buyers in the future.
Anonymous_3e86: Indeed, the PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) is trying to intimidate Zunar's customers. BN is getting more and more desperate as the days go by.
Mushiro: Another 'apple polishing' effort by the police. The shameless police force is not working on the very high crime rates in many housing estates such that residents are paying millions of ringgit monthly to employ private security guards.
This cost is not including the alarms, CCTV and other security systems installed by home owners. This has become a way of life for Malaysians due to the failure of the police.
And yet the police do not understand their priority and are focusing on Umno politics.
Whatsup: What have Zunar's customers got to do with this case? It’s time for some PDRM officers to say enough is enough and stand up to the nonsense they've been instructed to do.
Having a good laugh at all the blunders and scandals manifested in Zunar’s cartoons is wrong? We are already suffering endlessly and a few good laughs is a welcome change.
Heaven, what has happened to our men in blue?
CQ Muar: Lawyer Latheefa Koya, can I lodge a police report against the officer who lodged the second report against Zunar?
What the heck, hasn't he got better things to do than to make a fool of himself as a law enforcer of PDRM?
Just what is he trying to prove, or prompted him to pull such a stupid stunt? Expecting to get a quick promotion and be conferred a title?
Never in all my life have I heard of a cartoonist depicting and drawing caricatures of dignitaries (including Her Majesty the Queen of England) being hauled up for questioning or investigated for sedition.
The whole world must be laughing at such a substandard country like Malaysia.
I wonder what's lurking behind the minds of world leaders meeting and shaking hands with PM Najib Razak during their encounter such as the recent Apec (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) meeting?
Axolotl: Congratulations, police chief Khalid Abu Bakar, for bringing the police force to its lowest and most disgusting level of professionalism since its inception during the British era.
PDRM is now a private security firm guarding the vested interests of only the Umno bigwigs.
Cops grill cartoonist on mop-wig, judge's robe
Mushiro: "Who is this Anwar that you meant in your books?" the police asked Zunar.
Zunar should have given the police a choice of answers:
1. The same Anwar who gave Mahathir nightmares.
2. The same Anwar whom the former IGP (inspector-general of police) whacked while Anwar was blindfolded and handcuffed till Anwar's eyes turned black and blue.
3. The same Anwar whom Najib dares not debate.
With these answers, the police will have a clearer picture.
CNHT: Zunar should be proud of himself as the police consider him dangerous. Who is more cartoonish now?
Speaking Sense: All Zunar has to say is "I had no intention to do anything wrong", and he can't be charged.
