YOURSAY ‘Ahmad got off because the pro-BN House speaker saved his neck.’
Let off, Ahmad now wants MPs to apologise
Sirach: What Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan said initially was, in substance, very different from, and indeed contradicted, what he subsequently said.
From saying "no letter whatsoever" to then saying "no other guarantee letters whatsover" is an about-turn, when he must have known there was a letter of support issued, especially if the latter had the substantive effect of a guarantee.
From saying "letter of support does not exist" to saying "letter of support giving such guarantees does not exist" is evasive and intended to obfuscate by the use of semantics. Shame on him.
Kulim: If Ahmad is not wrong why did he say this?
"I admit my mistake in leaving out the six extra words, which have caused this misunderstanding. I had no intention to mislead the House."
Ace: If you compare the "corrected statements" with the original, they were definitely not because he missed out six words ( tidak ada surat jaminan lain semua - there is no other letter of guarantee).
Ahmad definitely intended the original statements to mean what was said.
Ipohcrite: Ahmad got off because the pro-BN House speaker saved his neck, and now he wants the MPs to apologise?
The MPs did the right thing by accusing him of misleading Parliament, which was exactly what he did when he tried to do a cover-up over the letter of support. This man doesn't know what he's asking for and will live to rue the day he pressed on for the apologies.
Multi Racial: This shows the arrogance of the deputy finance minister. What he did was wrong. He got his pardon from the House speaker.
Instead of realising his mistake and be grateful he got away with it, he now wants those who corrected him to apologise. Is he stupid or he thinks other are stupid?
Sometimes I wonder how can a large political party like Umno is unable to find someone better than Ahmad to serve as our deputy finance minister.
Baby Boy: Be a gentlemen, Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua. If you have made a mistake, and have the guts, apologise.
4Malaysia: Baby Boy, don't be stupid. Pua proved his case with the actual letter of support. Ahmad then tried to change his story and give lame excuses. The speaker, being an Umno Baru crony, tried to help by giving pathetic excuses on behalf of Ahmad.
It's because of people like you that Malaysia will not progress; can't see the truth and real facts even when they are shoved up your nose.
Mushiro: Sometimes even one word can change the meaning of a statement. PM Najib Razak first said, "Rosmah and I did not meet Saiful in our house". After evidence was shown, Najib changed his statement and said, "Rosmah and I did meet Saiful in our house."
Similarly when Ahmad was caught when evidence was shown, he changed his statement. And we have no less than the House speaker to play along with Maslan thus making a mockery of Parliament.
Ramser: My question is simple. You gave an answer in the august house of Parliament. Were you in your proper senses at that time? Given that there is a paucity of intelligence among the cabinet, it can be accepted.
Rafizi: Debt undertaking for 1MDB at RM20bil
Chan Foo Lam: Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, thanks for your concern for 1MDB. 1MDB will also be able to successfully develop and sell the RM27 billion Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) and the RM20 billion Bandar Malaysia project.
TRX alone is expected to attract over 250 global companies, creating 500,000 jobs directly and indirectly, and is slated to become a global centre for international finance, trade and services. It aims to make Malaysia’s capital city a financial and economic hub.
Among others, Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), had pledged to invest US$5 billion in it. Aabar Investments and another financial services firm have also committed to invest at least US$500 million each. Australian company Lend Lease has also committed to invest US$1 billion in TRX.
Anonymous #19098644: Why has the Parliamentary Audit Committee (PAC) not taken up this important issue? Up to now, the only thing that 1MDB has done for its land is to revalue it three times in three consecutive years to cover up its losses.
There is nothing wrong in raising money on the international market. But there is something wrong when the Malaysian people and the government have to guarantee it by issuing official letter of support.
There is something wrong when 10 percent commission is paid to the investment bankers when investment banks normally charge between 0.5 to 2.0 percent fees.
Fair Play: It looks like Ahmad is caught holding the hand grenade with its safety pin pulled off in a locked room and nowhere to throw it away. BN cybertroopers, no matter how hard they try, would not be able to help him.
