Lembah Pantai MP and PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar today expressed regret to former Federal Territories Minister Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin over an allegation she made of him on the transfer of land in Bukit Kiara.

The statement was tendered before High Court judge Nik Hasmat Nik Mohamed at the Duta Court complex in Kuala Lumpur, in the presence of Raja Nong Chik.

“I, Nurul Izzah Anwar, refer to the media statement made on May 4, last year, a day before the general election.

“I noticed there is a mistake in my statement which has affected Raja Nong Chik's ( left ) reputation as a politician, businessman, an established accountant and federal territories minister and his family. I regret in making the statement and will not repeat it,” she said.

The full statement, with the headline 'Statement of apology', was made by Nurul Izzah in open court.

Following this, Justice Nik Hasmat, recorded the consent judgment and made no order as to costs.

Raja Nong Chik had named Nurul Izzah, Malaysiakini and its former journalist, Lu Wei Hoong, as defendants. However, following Nurul Izzah's apology the suit is settled out of court.

As part of the settlement, Malaysiakini is to publish Nurul's statement in full on its website within seven days.

Yesterday it was reported that Nurul Izzah had settled her suit against Umno owned daily Utusan Malaysia out of court .
 
KL High Court judge Hue Siew Kheng recorded the consent judgment. Nurul had filed the suit against Utusan for distorting her statement in a forum on religious freedom for Malays.
