DAY 6 TELUK INTAN What’s happening in the by-election campaign in the parliamentry constituency of Teluk Intan? Quotable quotes, planned events and unplanned incidents as they take place.

6.15pm: Gerakan adviser Chang Ko Youn said 5,000 of the 60,349 registered voters living outside Teluk Intan are expected to return and vote in the by-election.

"The outstation voters must be more compassionate and consider the needs of local residents. They rarely return and do not understand issues faced by Teluk Intan residents," he was reported as saying by Bernama .

Chang said voters should not adopt the "ubah" concept of the opposition as this is not a general election that can change the government.

"This by-election can change the future of Teluk Intan residents.

Voters should know that previous DAP members of parliament M Kulasegaran (1997) and M Manogaran (2008) were rarely seen in Teluk Intan after winning the seat.

"Do not go through such an experience again. Mah will not run away because his family, friends and house is here in Teluk Intan."

He slammed DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang for claiming that Mah Siew Keong damaged family ties and urged parents not to be swayed by their children living outside Teluk Intan.

"If the criticism has any merit, it is Lim who is the biggest culprit for bringing Dyana Sofya into the DAP knowing very well she is from a strong Umno family."

1.20pm: Leaning Tower square - A huge banner promoting BN's candidate is spotted from the Teluk Intan Umno division office just across the junction from the landmark.

Painted in BN's colour blue, the image of the candidate however looks nothing like Mah.

1pm: The usually quiet Teluk Intan town sees a bumper-to-bumper crawl on major roads as many ministers are holding campaign events concurrently.

Malaysiakini observes traffic snarls in Jalan Changkat Jong, Jalan Sultan Abdullah as well as vicinity of Leaning Tower square.

Besides the scheduled campaign trail of both candidates, ministers holding events here include Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ismail Sabri Yaacob.

12.20pm: Bumbung Biru - A group of about five DAP workers hand out brochures of Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud's profile to patrons at the Bumbung Biru food centre next to the Leaning Tower and ask voters to support her..

Passers by are seen holding the borchures, some read it and smile.

15 minutes later, a van bearing BN candidate Mah Siew Keong's poster shows up at the same spot playing BN's campaign message through its loudspeakers.

11.45am: Gerakan's Simpang Renggam MP Liang Teck Meng ( right in photo ) accuses Dyana of lying and opposing hudud implementation to gain political mileage during the by-election.

"Dyana is lying when she claims that she objects to hudud implementation," Liang tells a press conference at Gerakan by-election operations centre.

He also claims that two of DAP's Muslims MPs Zairil Khir Johari (Bukit Bendera) and Ariff Sabri (Raub) have yet to express their stand on hudud.

9.30am: Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein attends an interactive session with some 100 veteran militants at UiTM Teluk Intan campus in Jalan Changkat Jong.

In his speech, he says BN is leading the country to a more prosperous stage and there is no reason for voters not to support its candidate Mah Siew Keong.

"Mah has been a close friend of mine since 20 years, and he is a hardworking and dedicated leader.

"Gentlemen, don't worry if Mah does not work well, I'll monitor him on behalf of you," he quips.

Earlier, the organiser questions the presence of journalists at the function saying the media is not invited for coverage.

"We received this invitation last minute, and we thought it is (Home Minister) Ahmad Zahid's event," says a journalist who did not want to be named.

However, media is eventually allowed to stay for the function but no press conference is held.

At 11am Hishammuddin is scheduled to visit Kampung Padang Tembak, a Malay village where DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud was heckled earlier this week.
