The letter by Mohd Kassim Ahmad, ' Sick of libertarian views in Malaysiakini ' is interesting, to say the least.
There were two letters in malaysiakini calling on the government to allow Chin Peng to come home, one by Sharaad Kuttan and the other Martin Lee . I do not understand why Mohd Kassim only selects Martin Lee's for rebuttal.
While Mohd Kassim Ahmad may have a point in rebutting Martin Lee, there is no need for him to attack malaysiakini for providing a forum for rational discussions on our national history. Attack, discuss and discourse ideas by all means, but please respect the forum provided by malaysiakini .
On a substantive point, it is strange for Mohd Kassim to blame every misery and misfortune in the period 1948-60 entirely on Chin Peng and the Communist Party of Malaya. What about British colonialism? What about the tortures, killings and rapes during the Japanese occupation?
Obviously, Mohd Kassim has not read Chin Peng's memoirs to gain a balanced view on history before he unleashed his outbursts based on anti-communist propaganda. It is time he buys the book and reads it before participating in public debates.
