Penang Umno members and their allies today held a second rally to show their disgust at Machang Bubuk assemblyperson Lee Khai Loon for organising a kangkung-themed flash mob in Bukit Mertajam on Friday.
This time, the protesters burned a half-mannequin with Lee's image, and spat, stomped and mooned over it as it went up in flames.
They also poured water over a poster with DAP leaders Lim Kit Siang and state Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, with the words, " Guru yang ajar DAP biadap Melayu " (The teachers who teach DAP to be rude to Malays).
They carried various posters made out in manila card with words admonishing Lee and his party, PKR.
About 300 started the rally at the food court and pasar malam area in Alma, and after delivering several speeches, moved to Lee's service centre nearby.
They shouting slogans calling him "rude", "stupid", "mouth as dirty as a drain" and "no manners".
They also called him "Kai Lan", making fun of his name playing on the local vegetable.
They hurled vulgarities at Lee, condemning him for allegedly not carrying out his duties as an assemblyperson in ignoring their flood problems and allegedly allowing Malay traders’ shops to be demolished.
One protester was seen spitting at a photograph depicting Lee ( left ).
Among the crowd were state Umno secretary Musa Sheikh Fadzir and Penang Malay Congress president Rahmad Isahak, who gave their speeches on a lorry.
Passersby attacked
They pasted the posters on the shutters of a shop below Lee's office, with some seen venting their anger at the shutters.
Two men who came by the area were attacked by the crowd. Police then stepped in and carted one of the men away. Later, some members of the crowd said, "Who asked him to say Melayu bodoh ."
The rally is in retaliation of the kangkung-theme flash mob held in Alma, Bukit Mertajam to protest against the recent price hike plaguing the country.
While many were amused by the mob held last Wednesday, Umno leaders were miffed, finding it "rude and insulting" when 10 kilos of the leafy green vegetable was stuffed into the gaping mouth of a replica of Najib made from styrofoam.
The gathering by pro-Najib groups follows the first rally held yesterday at the Sunway Carnival Mall where about 600 turned up, led by several Umno leaders like Kepala Batas MP Reezal Merican and Bukit Mertajam chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir.
The group was spotted carrying a banner warning, "Because of DAP leaders’ mouths, May 13 happened... want some more?" ( left )
Penang DAP vice-chairperson Zairil Khir Johari will be lodging a report over the allegation at noon today.
Najib's ‘kangkung speech’ became the butt of jokes and parodies when in Kemaman last Sunday, he tried to elicit praises for his government by saying that despite the hike in prices for essential goods, the cost of some items have gone down, such as kangkung.
The remark went wild on Facebook and Twitter , prompting the British Broadcasting Corporation ( BBC ) to publish a story on the issue.
It was obvious that the crowd - which initially came to show support for Najib - ended up condemning Lee, PKR and DAP.
Musa, greeting the crowd with "Satu Melayu", said that Malays have long kept their anger buried.
"It is alright to express your dissatisfaction but not okay to insult the Malays. DAP has always insulted the Malays and Islam.
"Lee did not do much in Machang Bubuk. Where does he live? We want to meet him. He is only scared of the CM. When the rakyat suffer, where is he?" asked Musa.
"We are warning him, don't insult the Malays. We will defend (our race) with every drop of blood," he added.
'Don't insult the Malays'
Rahmad stressed that Malays are not stupid and there are 640,000 of them in Penang.
"His mandate as YB is not to insult people, but work for them. Pakatan reps talk more than work," he noted.
Later, before asking the crowd to disperse, Musa said he knew the matter would upset many and turn into a racial one.
"That is why I am saying don't insult the Malays. Don't totally blame the (BN) government for the price hike because the state government is also responsible. Go to the ground and see for yourself," he said.
Musa claimed that the protest was organised by the local Malay group, not Umno.
State Perkasa Youth chief Ridzuan Azudin ( left ) was among the crowd but did not speak.
"I just came to support," he said.
During his speech, Rahmad claimed that Lee did not care about the Malay hawkers who lost their businesses, telling him to do their job instead of insulting the race.
An ex-army commando who only wanted to be known as Abdul Jalil, gave a fiery speech saying, "I sudah potong (circumcised) so I am not afraid of anyone."
"If Lee is brave and man enough, come here and do another flash mob. We all want to see him and talk to him," said Abdul Jalil.
"This is not a photostated face. We are willing to die in a holy war, as martyrs," he added, pointing to his face.
"The government has given you MyKads (identity cards) and yet you want to be rude," he chided Lee.
Other colourful posters read "LK Loon, watch your behaviour. I-diot", "PKR rep stupid and arrogant", "PKR no brain", and "Time when asking for votes, mouth is sweet, after getting, mouth is smelly like the drain" and "PKR Malays, don't forget easily".
