Umno talks about race in wake of Mandela's death

YOURSAY 'There is a heavy symbolism in this great man's death being timed to point to the shameful cowardice of this party called the Umno.'

Umno moots mandating gov't contracts, GLC jobs for bumis

your say, Yoursay Oriole: How ironic that on the occasion of the death of Nelson Mandela who stood against any form of prejudice or discrimination, this political party would have this gathering and spew the most racist rantings to be found in any part of the civilised world?

There is a heavy symbolism in this great man's death being timed to point to the shameful cowardice of this party called the Umno.

Anti Racism: I quote our beloved Mandela: "I hate race discrimination most intensely and in all its manifestations. I have fought it all during my life; I fight it now, and will do so until the end of my days."

Anonymous #21828131: So I read ... "Nelson Mandela was about 26 in the 1940s when the Afrikaner National Party was able to gain a strong majority, strategist in the party (whites) invented apartheid as a means to cement their control over the economic and social system..."

It sounds too familiar, doesn't it? And here we are right smack in 2013, without any guilt or shame, scheming and cementing our own form of bigotry for another 50 years to come or more. Sad indeed.

NX: Umno is not about fighting for the welfare of the Malays but rather about how the Umno cronies can get their hand on easy money. That is the simple truth.

The bumiputera content in GLCs and the government is already approximately 98 percent and now they are craving for the additional two percent.

I wonder why that year after year the rhetoric that surfaces in Umno meetings defies intelligence.

James1067: Bumiputeras deserve 67 percent or more but the right way is to work towards that goal and not demanding on a silver platter.

At this rate, even foreigners will be afraid to invest as they will be unsure whether they will end up owning their investments.

BN Cyberpooper: Why are we still labelling the bumipuetra agenda as "affirmative action"? If I am not mistaken, affirmative action means positive discrimination to promote under-represented populace. Malays are far from being under-represented...

Steven Choong: Bachok Umno chief Awang Adek Husin had said it well but the message was not targeted at you and me but their rural votes bank. In politics, the message is always directing to those who is likely to vote them.

His message does go down well to the rural Malays though they may not get to taste any of the pie but the mere fact that people of they are getting it is just as satisfying.

The GE results of the past is a reflection of this feel good feeling though they may be screaming for 'barang naik' now. But whenever they hear that Umno will fight for more rights for them, their votes go to Umno-BN.

Retnam: Awang Adek is absolutely right. In fact, Parliament should pass a law, preferably change the constitution accordingly, that all GLCs (government-linked companies) can only employ bumiputeras in future.

All contracts must be given only to bumiputeras and no other. If any GLC does not obey this law, it must be deemed as sedition and the punishment must be death.

Kanasai: Where Malays/bumiputeras made up of 70 percent, how come Umno-BN only managed to obtain 47 percent of the popular votes in GE13?

Out of the 47 percent, I guess about five percent must have come from non-Malays and this leaves 42 percent of Malays voting Umno-BN.

Now what happen the remaining 28 percent of Malays? This means only 60 percent of Malays supported Umno-BN and if taking East Malaysia votes out, that only means less than 50 percent of Peninsular Malays voted Umno-BN.

What a tragedy and as usual Umno has very few leaders who can actually analyse the situation on the ground.

Factnot Fiction: If we cannot learn from the history of Bank Bumiputra, go ahead and adopt the extreme bumiputera policy then the world will benefit from it and Malaysia will forever be the third world nation.

Cheong Sai Fah: It makes me wonder what the Ministry of Integrity will have to say about this. The minister says one thing and Umno say another. Who will prevail? Your guess is as good as mine.

Relevancy: The irreparable unity is long forgone conclusion. Extremism at all levels has taken root all over where existence of co-existence are now non-existence.

It really is no longer a Malaysian dream. Only dreams of segregation and extremism. What was once for all is no longer ours, only mine. What was once we, is now only I.

Doc: On this sad day where a great international icon Mandela passed away, we remember his fight to free South Africa from apartheid.

Here in Malaysia, Malaysians too have to stand united to fight against yet another evil regime which is racist, corrupt and above all, the most stupidest regime the world has seen - Umno.

EvenSteven: For certain we have no Nelson Mandelas among our leaders.
