YOURSAY 'Does 1Malaysia or 1Melayu make any difference? Whatever the slogan is, the end result is the same - cronyism, nepotism, corruption, lies and more lies.'
Mukhriz snubs proposal to boot '1Melayu' proponent
Ferdtan: Why are we getting upset with Bukit Mertajam division chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir for suggesting the 1Malaysia slogan be replaced with 1Melayu?
1Malaysia, PM Najib's feel-good slogan for election was never ours anyway - it belongs to Umno-BN. Umno can called themselves "1Melayu" for all we care, we already know it already.
Not many know this but it is a slap in the face of Umno president, PM Najib Razak (not Gerakan), when the call was made by Penang delegate Musa Sheik Fadzir. After all, 1Malaysia is Najib's baby. This was further compounded by the open endorsement of Musa by Mukhriz, an opposing camp against Najib.
There is a concerted effort, though subtlety, by rightists to play on extremist politics to undermine the central (or inclusive politics) that Najib wants to adopt as his strategy as in the past (but failed) and now the next election.
The hidden target of Musa and Mukhriz is pointing at their president Najib. The question is: "If Najib can't fight them in such race-bait agenda, will he join them?"
2zzzx xx: We should encourage Umno to change 1Malaysia to 1Melayu, as that is the reality. I think Penang Umno leader Musa is just being honest in suggesting it. 1Malaysia is a fable and we all know that, so let them use the real slogan - 1Melayu.
Kanasai: Let's be honest with ourselves: does 1Malaysia or 1Melayu make any difference? I don't think so. Whatever the slogan is, the end result is the same - cronyism, nepotism, corruption, lies and more lies.
Alanthechan: Why waste time arguing over 1Malaysia or 1Melayu? All the talk about national reconciliation, finding common ground or being inclusive of all, etc, etc, are mere slogans without any political will to implement them.
How can the country achieve national unity of all races when speeches by political leaders are constantly focussed on race rather on national integration?
I read with sadness the passing away of former African president Nelson Mandela - here's a passage from one of his letters, "I have cherished the ideal of a free and democratic society in which all persons live in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I live for and hope to achieve."
That is why he was a leader well respected the world over, but not our PM, DPM or even the "great" Tun. So, why waste time with these leaders?
Sakit Hati Ku: Penang Gerakan secretary Oh Tong Keong, just do not shoot blanks. Put your money where your mouth is. Either your demand for the 1Melayu slogan be withdrawn and an apology given to Malaysians be met, or you will call Gerakan to withdraw from the BN coalition.
Now you have a good opportunity to achieve glory, show us you have ‘marbles'. Equally, Malaysians would like to see the other two political beggar parties in the BN coalition namely, MCA and MIC, do likewise.
Straight Talk: It never has been a 1Malaysia since day one when it was launched. As far as Umno is concerned, it has been just 1Melayu all this while, and Gerakan leaders have been in it together for so long, come on, don't tell me you don't know about this?
So when DPM Muhyiddin Yassin proclaimed that he is Melayu first and Malaysian second, it's already written on the wall. And the PM did not disagree too, so?
Paul Warren: As one icon that broke the back of apartheid dies, another case of apartheid rises. With 1Malaysia there was this feeble attempt at showing a united Malaysia. With 1Melayu, it attempts to show that the Malays are No 1 in everything.
Lao Kor: Don't be a hypocrite. Racist rhetoric is a common phenomenon in this racial party and it will emerge during every AGM. In the past, Gerakan had not dared voice against any of this racist rhetoric, why are they suddenly opposed so strongly now?
Do you mean that if Najib doesn't ask Musa to retract the 1Melayu statement, Gerakan will dare to withdraw from BN? Empty talk is of no use. Without action, it will only bring shame to you.
Happy Malaysian: Oh, the Chinese have already left BN, just the Malays are left to support Umno-BN and you feel that his call for 1Melayu is going to damage ties?
Musa is not a racist by virtue of his call, maybe he is one deep down, but what he is asking is fair and it is his right to free speech.
Malaysian Lover: I have never heard of a country's government creating racial issues among the rakyat. I think in this world only Malaysia's so-called Umno-BN government creates racial issues in order to protect and control power and benefit the cronies.
MinahBulat: The reality is 1Malaysia is as dead as a dodo; Musa has spoken the racist truth. Now we see this Gerakan leader Oh dare to make some sound, but any party of integrity would have left the BN long ago.
Is it not true that the civil service is dominated by one race? Is it not true that the constitution has given special privileges to the Malays? Have you not heard the standard remark "if you don't like it, go back to China" or are you too dumb to realise that this is what Malaysia is today?
So what is wrong if this fellow were to promote 1Melayu? The ground reality is this is the truth. Gerakan, if they have a gramme of integrity must leave BN. But no, like any Umno poodle they bark a bit and that is all.
Louis: Oh Tong Keong, we do not need this racist's apologies at all. No need to tell him to apologise. The only right thing to do for you is to ask Gerakan to get out of BN, failing which you should get out of Penang. We do not need Gerakan or MCA.
Fair&Just: This is just a sandiwara. Where has Gerakan got the guts to really go against the powerful and almighty supremacist bigot Umno?
Black Mamba: Every year around this time and without fail it has been an annual Chinese and non-Malays bashing affair for Umno, and I seriously wonder why the coalition parties are still sticking around with Umno-BN?
Either they are so thick skulled or heavily corrupt like them, or they have lost their dignity beyond recovery.
