YOURSAY ‘Elite Malay and Umno Malay cronies are reaping the shares of the hard work and the sweat of poor Malays. Umno only represents the elite Malays.'
Khairy: Cries of 'Hidup Melayu' no longer enough
Ong Guan Sin: What Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar stopped short of telling the truth is that ‘Hidup Melayu' (Long Live Malays) has been the battle cry to cultivate blind loyalty of Malays to Umno, using them to cement political power. Whether or not such a relationship will help the Malays progress is accidental and secondary.
The 'breakthrough' of Khairy here is to cast a little crack in the fallacy and to try moving forward for both Umno and the Malays. The bulk of the leaders in Umno won't have such conscience, and Khairy earns a little credit for that relative courage.
Enlightened Malays will have to decide what best is for Malays and Malaysians at large, after more than five decades of wasted time under Umno.
Mushiro: In the name of Malays, in the name of bumiputeras and in the name of Islam, the United Malays National Organisation (Umno) has cheated and misled the Malays all these years since the New Economic Policy (NEP) and have left the Malays poor, in greater debt, backwards and far behind.
Umno has cunningly created an elite Malay society of thieves, rent seekers and freeloaders. Saying more has to be done for the Malays is admitting that nothing was done for the average and poor Malays after the NEP. Malays are left far behind in education, construction, properties and all industries. In fact, in almost every field. Umno is here to rip off the Malays.
Lim chong leong: Khairy is right, especially when these days, ‘Hidup Melayu' is synonymous with "Mampus Umno" (Be Gone, Umno). Only with widespread cheating and gerrymandering can Umno win. The people's hearts are no longer with them. Malays can only hidup with Pakatan Rakyat.
Voice: So, he now acknowledges that it was just an empty slogan these past 50 years?
SpongeBob: Umno is embracing a "platform of progressiveness" by means of plundering the nation. Elite Malay and Umno Malay cronies are reaping the shares of the hard work and the sweat of the poor Malays. Umno only represents these groups of Malays.
SomebodyElse: Nowadays, you are no longer deemed to be seen as a fair political party if you keep singling out the Chinese, Indian or the indigenous peoples. Time for Umno to review its policy and focus if it wants to remain relevant in the future.
Doc: I think Khairy's new battle cry should be ‘Cukaikan Melayu' (Tax the Malays). Seriously, look at how Umno is running the country post-GE - petrol and sugar subsidies reduced, electricity price going up, assessment rates going up and inflation skyrocketing.
Adrian Thambyrajah: Only when there is equality among all Malaysians can you live with dignity. Otherwise you are just a slur to the Malay race.
Focus Cronyism XX1: This young ciku Khairy is prime minister material. The battle cry he should shout is ‘Hidup dan Maju Malaysia Ku' (Long Live and Prosper My Malaysia). This totally eliminates racism and the priorities will fall in line accordingly. But no, this won't happen until Pakatan forms the government.
Theeyes82: Khairy is probably the different face of Umno that would benefit the nation. But there is only so much one can do in that organisation. End of the day, it is the voice of the majority in that malignant party. Nevertheless, a good improvement.
Hello: The problem with your ‘Hidup Melayu' policy is that instead of bettering the lives of the Malays, Umno deprives the rights of the non-Malays to appear that it is for the betterment of the Malays. This is actually sedition, not NEP or Bumiputera Economic Empowerment (BEE) Agenda. The country and even the prospects of Umno will be better off if there is less abuse of the minorities.
Headhunter: "It is without question that the results and the effectiveness of our programmes are more important than sloganeering for the sake of it." Please tell it to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. He spent hundreds of millions of ringgit on such projects.
Gordon Gecko:
The problem with Umno is that when it shouts ‘Hidup Melayu' the battle cry, all I can imagine is a bunch of live parasites sucking off the wealth of the nation in the name of race and religion.Appoint minister for bumi agenda, PM told
Oriole: Yes keep fighting over the bumiputera agenda while the country rots before our eyes. But all is well for the idiots on Idiot Hill because they've got the bumi agenda. Look at the latest Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) rankings , you fool. Of what use is your agenda when you're bankrupt in terms of fundamentals like education?
Mamadias: Don't we already have enough government agencies and the whole government infrastructure to look after the bumiputera agenda? Do we need another minister for that?
Factnot fiction:
This is the fastest way to destroy the Malays. Why can't we learn from Singapore, where there the Malays who are more successful and can live with dignity?SpongeBob: This untouchable political party keeps claiming that the Malays are so weak, to the extent that they are helpless in every possible area. Does the community consist fully of lame people that they even need someone to lift a spoon to feed them? Has this community reached such a critical, helpless situation?
Wira: More than three-quarters of the cabinet is filled with ministers with only the bumiputera agenda. Now Umno Youth wants another honcho to oversee them?
Fourtan: I don't think you need another minister of bumiputera agenda. Each and every Umno minister now is already a minister for the bumiputera agenda. Of course, that is second to each of them being the minister of the ‘self' agenda.
Sabahan: I suggest Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali as minister as he is jobless and needs to replenish his funds.
Oomph: Even apartheid now loses to the bumiputera agenda. What you should do is to set up a council of Sunni elders - first to deter non-Muslims and second to deter non-Sunnis. Please amend the constitution so that non-Muslims need not pay any taxes, not even any consumption tax, and then you can ship us out. Or we can walk out.
