VOXPOP 'On hindsight the win by Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man gives a good balance, to have at least one ulama in the vice presidency.'
Tuan Ibrahim joins Husam, Salahuddin as new VP trio
Ferdtan: It is rather pleasantly surprising that Husam Musa has survived to be retained as one of the PAS vice presidents when most pundits before the unprecedented recount said he was the losing candidate.
It is a pity that the hard working and good-natured Mahfuz Omar has to lose. The four equally strong contenders with the exception of Abu Bakar Chik had good chances to be elected. Regrettably one of them has to lose.
Since Mahfuz had proven himself as an effective leader by successfully defending the seat in the Sungai Limau by‑election, we hope PAS appoints him to some post of responsibility. He still has a lot to contribute.
Likewise, on hindsight the win by Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man gives a good balance, to have at least one ulama in the vice presidency. Tuan Ibrahim is acceptable as he seems to work well with his Pakatan counterparts - judging from his former position as party information chief. He is not the rabid conservative we find in some ulama.
Now the mainstream media cannot seize the opportunity to instigate bad feelings (like Jocelyn Tan of The Star and the Utusan Malaysia people are capable of doing) among the two differing factions in the party. They cannot say the ulama did not win. The results show a win‑win for both factions. Everyone is happy at the end of the day.
Appum: A good mix. It was a very democratic process and when you have many good candidates, some have to lose. Well, Utusan, what do you have to say? Still say it's a victory for PKR and DAP?
You underestimate the PAS people, don't you? Sorry, you and your Umno goons are just not up to par with the PAS members, I'm afraid. Just listen to most of the Umno ministers when they open their mouths and you'll get the drift.
Onyourtoes: The winners of the party elections do not have to take all. Find a way to accommodate Mahfuz. I think Kedah PAS needs more work, attention and support. They must kick out that son of former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's ‑ the remnant of everything that is not right in this country.
Ama: Yes, we must take Kedah from Mahathir. Terminate his dynasty for good.
Hanipa: Syariah pointless without transparency
Bamboo: Endemic corruption in our country is due to collusion between the executive and civil service, it's not due to the absence of hudud law. Corruption and abuse of power are still widespread in Pakistan (despite them having once implemented Islamic laws).
Why would we want to follow that failed path? Sepang MP Mohd Hanipa Maidin is right, PAS should put their effort in focussing on more pressing issues like the drawing up of draconian laws by BN, improving the standard of education and healthcare for the people etc.
Fair Play: Hanipa Maidin talks with sense, highlighting the deficiency and unfairness of any system being enforced for the sake of enforcement.
Rightan: The present system fails due to corruption and poor implementation, not because the system (civil law) is bad per se. Look at Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea and so on.
These are Asian countries that manage their systems well - so which aspect of hudud is superior to their laws? If it truly is, then by all means implement it without delay, but PAS has to show us hudud is far more superior in terms of effectiveness/efficiency, not because it is Islamic only.
Retnam: I wonder what would happen to the Umno cronies if hudud is implemented?
