YOURSAY 'If he had copied the academic works of Airil Yasreen, he should face an investigation panel and answer the allegations.'

Professor Tee ready to face plagiarism accusation

your say, Yoursay Onyourtoes: Professor Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, if you think others have slandered you, please take legal action.

It is not just about your views and writing in Utusan Malaysia that many disagree with. It is who you will appear to be - a cheat and a thief - if you are not able extricate yourself from all the accusations levelled against you.

So don't divert the issue. You have been accused of plagiarism. There are only two alternatives. Either you prove them wrong and sue, or you admit to the whole world you are a cheat and a liar.

You should learn a little from Umno leaders - hypocrites and liars shouldn't talk too much.

Malaysian Born: Plagiarism cannot be allowed into our educational institutions, even the hint of it.

The fact that there has been clear evidence presented by MPs who actually have credibility, like Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, it should be taken very seriously and at the very least a thorough review must be carried out.

The reputation and credibility of Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia hangs in the balance. This is not someone you want shaping the minds of our youth.

Geronimo: While we are talking about his plagiarism, we have Ridhuan talking instead about the articles he had written and challenging the public to a debate.

That is like comparing apples to oranges, which just confirms that he is what he is - nothing more than a fake.

Anonymous #42402094: Ridhuan, this is not an argument. This is an allegation of plagiarism. it has tarnished your reputation. If the people making this allegation are wrong, go sue them, if you dare.

Vijay47: In all fairness to Ridhuan, perhaps it all boils down to a matter of perception. What is the actual definition of "plagiarism"? In Ridhuan's mind, plagiarism occurs when you copy an entire book, change the author's name to yours and claim that you wrote the book.

But if you copy just a few sentences here, a few paragraphs there and a few chapters in between, with everything spiced with a dash of errors, then perhaps it is not plagiarism.

Mosquito: Ridhuan has denied the charge of plagiarism. It is up to the person who accused him to come up with the evidence to show it was not a case of character assassination.

It's about time Airil Yasmeen Mohd Yassin, who Ridhuan allegedly plagiarised from, come forward with the proof. Airil, what are you waiting for?

Ferdtan: So how can Ridhuan gain respect even from his students? They may turn around to say, "Sir, you also copy. You cheated, so can we."

Since he is supposed to be an ustaz (teacher) and if the allegation is true, isn't it ‘haram' (illegal against the religion)? The sin of a religious teacher is doubly damning than an ordinary believer as he should have known better.

A quote by Prophet Muhammad: "There are three signs of a hypocrite: when he speaks he speaks lies, when he makes a promise he breaks it, and when he is trusted he betrays his trust."

Mushiro: Is it a coincidence that the same grammatical errors that appeared in the original article were produced in Ridhuan's text? Will Ridhuan agree if a independent third party person review his thesis?

Wira: Professor, Kok's revelation is most damaging. Sue her for RM1 million and tell the court why you even copied grammatical errors. You can't be that stupid, right?

Anonymous #37634848: All commentators here have prejudiced minds, acting as prosecutor, judge and jury. One is innocent until proven guilty. Let the accusation be investigated formally. Ridhuan is a proven learned Islamic scholar.

Those who have an axe to grind against him should do it formally instead of simply crying foul. Ridhuan should sue all those involved to clear his name.

Siang Malam: Indeed, if he had copied the academic works of Airil Yasreen, he should face an investigation panel and answer the charges, while his professorship is put on hold.

Not Smart: Just imagine, if we have a professor with such questionable ethics, how many students of the same will be produced by the university during his tenure?

It is akin to placing a worm into a box of fresh apples, which will eventually be a box of worms. No wonder the country is being flooded and polluted with such people so much so the leaders we have are like worms too.

Anonymous #02382443: Writing newspaper and other feature articles do not qualify as academic work. List, for our review, your academic articles published in renown journals worldwide. No wonder our universities only make it to the bottom rankings.

Gordon Gecko: "Kok pointed out that the Utusan Malaysia columnist even copied the grammatical errors that appeared in the original article, and at times, plagiarising an entire paragraph or page."

What a joke. At least my 14-year-old son knows how to paraphrase the sentences when he copies from Wikipedia for his school assignments.
