P Dev Anand Pillai: He will not go that fast, he has a very strong heart. Being denied two-thirds majority twice in a row will not stop him, only a complete change of government may. He comes from a family that has a long history of longevity. So he will be fine.

Cala: Mahathir epitomises what a Third World politician can do when powers is concentrated in one man (Gomez, 2005).

While he was credited for creating a large pool of middle class, the downside, alas, was his display of self-serving nature of a man with power that benefits quintessentially his family members, his party members, and cronies.

See the fiasco created by him involving the independent power plants (Arope, 2013). As a man who lacks the ability to reason intellectually, he appears to be a confusing man indeed over a number of issues, shifting his position from one end of the pole to another (Khoo, 1995).

Kee Thuan Chye: Mahathir will outlive many of us. But although Bernama reports it as chest infection, it could be more severe for all we know.

We can surely trust Bernama to downplay the real story so as not to cause alarm. One, however, wonders how the stock market would react if he dies. Probably soar, eh?

But as fellow human beings, we sincerely should wish him a quick recovery. He should see his follies. So we wish him long life.

Stay out of Sarawak, Perkasa warned

Borneo Son: Sarawakians are well-known for their friendliness and hospitality but they do not welcome racists whose actions will only disrupt the harmony and goodwill among the various ethnic groups in the state.

The state authorities should exercise their power to stop Perkasa from entering Sarawak. It is too bad that Sabah has allowed Umno and Perkasa to establish a foothold in the state.

Sali Tambap: Perkasa is playing the devil advocate here. With the threat of Umno/Perkasa expanding to Sarawak, this view expounds that only PBB can stop them but only if PBB is strong.

The idea is to threaten Sarawakians to support PBB, otherwise a Malayan party like Umno will come over to replace PBB as the protector of Malay/Islam interest in Sarawak. PBB would be the lesser of the two devils.

Sarawakians have to be careful and smart in dealing with this. Do not fall into the Malayan trap of Umno again.

Oriole: But the fact is that much of Sarawak is caught in a master-slave relationship with the political elites from BN and it is only a matter of time before Perkasa and Isma (Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia) and every other nut job sets up base there to bring the peninsula brand of governance.

And these political elites realise this benefit, which is why Sarawak is among the two poorest states in the country.

It's easier to control people who are on subsistence, than those who might have the means to assert their voices and demand their rights.
